Job Summary
Miss Lyn is a dynamic, established, and proudly South African textile manufacturer of high-quality
homeware
goods (duvet covers, sheets, cushions, etc.). We are seeking a highly experienced, disciplined, and stability-focused
Factory Manager
to take
full operational accountability
for our factory floor.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader dedicated to efficiency, cost control, and managing production output as we scale to meet the demands of major online retail platforms. This is a crucial, long-term leadership role designed to allow the current owners to transition to strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities (Operational Focus)
Your primary mandate is to achieve maximum production and quality standards. This role
does not
handle formal industrial relations (IR); your focus is purely on the floor.
Production Planning and Efficiency:
Develop, implement, and manage detailed production schedules, line balancing, and time studies to ensure all deadlines (including high-volume orders for Takealot) are met with zero compromise on quality.
Quality Control (QC):
Oversee and enforce stringent quality standards throughout the entire production lifecycle, from fabric cutting to final packaging, minimizing errors and returns.
Cost Management & Waste Reduction:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean principles) to reduce material waste, optimize labour utilisation, and improve overall cost-per-unit.
Team Leadership and Discipline:
Lead, mentor, and maintain a disciplined, high-performing factory team and floor supervisors. Responsible for training and skills development to address the current skills gap.
Equipment & Maintenance:
Ensure all factory machinery (sewing machines, cutting equipment, etc.) is well-maintained and operating efficiently to prevent production bottlenecks.
Essential Requirements
The requirements are deliberately specific to filter for the right expertise and commitment.
5+ Years of Proven Managerial Experience
in a hands-on Factory or Production Manager role within the
Textile Manufacturing
industry.
Specific Homeware Expertise is ESSENTIAL
(e.g., bedding, cushions, soft furnishings). Candidates focused solely on garments/apparel will not be considered.
Demonstrated success in implementing
Time Studies
,
line balancing
, and efficiency-driving systems in a production environment.
Strong knowledge of
Lean Manufacturing
principles and practical application.
Excellent command of English (written and verbal); proficiency in another official South African language is highly advantageous.
Tertiary qualification in Textile Technology, Production Management, or Industrial Engineering is preferred, but substantial, verifiable experience is equally valued.
