We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Facilities Manager to join our growing team in Somerset West. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the efficient operation, maintenance, and optimisation of our facilities to ensure compliance, safety, and sustainability in support of Simera Sense's mission to enable the next generation of space technology. Job Purpose:
Ensures the efficient operation, maintenance, and optimisation of the facility to support organisational goals, promote sustainability, and ensure compliance with local regulations.

  • Source contracts and service providers for catering, cleaning, parking, security, and technology functions.
  • Manage facilities and maintenance budget.
  • Conduct proactive (preventative) maintenance and upgrades.
  • Ensure that facilities meet compliance standards and government regulations.
  • Ensure employee and facility safety.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, tenants, vendors, contractors, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate the facilities team to ensure project milestones are met
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance
  • Coordinate repairs and renovations to maintain optimal conditions
  • Analyse space usage to optimise layouts for maximum productivity
  • Plan for office relocations or expansions
  • Ensure spaces are designed to meet the needs of employees and operations
  • Enforce health and safety protocols that align with local regulations
  • Perform regular safety audits and risk evaluations
  • Create and maintain emergency response plans for various situations
  • Develop and manage budgets for maintenance, repairs, and capital projects
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure cost-effectiveness

  • Promote energy efficiency through building upgrades (e.g., LED lighting, energy-efficient HVAC systems)
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling programs
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Utilise innovative tools to optimise operations
  • Implement systems that enhance workplace efficiency
  • Ensure facilities meet the unique requirements of space industry operations, including clean rooms and specialised laboratories
  • Coordinate with space mission teams to support their operational needs
  • Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive information and technology
  • Coordinate with security teams to ensure the safety of personnel and assets
  • Undertake building environmental assessments.
  • Complete sustainability plans.
  • Conduct site assessments and produce reports on findings.
  • Initiate renewable energy assessments.
  • Advising on the latest low or zero-carbon technologies
Required Qualifications:
Diploma in Management, Engineering, or Business Studies.
Required Experience:
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in managing building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems
  • Proven track record in conducting regular inspections and preventive maintenance
  • Experience in coordinating repairs and renovations to maintain optimal conditions
  • Experience overseeing construction and renovation projects
  • Ability to liaise with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure projects meet industry standards
  • Demonstrated success in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources
  • Experience analysing space usage to optimise layouts for maximum productivity
  • Proven ability to plan for office relocations or expansions
  • Experience ensuring spaces are designed to meet the needs of employees and operations
  • Experience enforcing health and safety protocols that align with local regulations
  • Proven track record in performing regular safety audits and risk evaluations
  • Experience creating and maintaining emergency response plans
  • Experience sourcing and negotiating contracts with vendors
  • Proven ability to monitor vendor performance to ensure compliance with service agreements
  • Experience managing relationships with contractors and service providers
  • Experience promoting energy efficiency through building upgrades
  • Proven track record in managing waste disposal and recycling programs
  • Experience ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
  • Experience ensuring facilities meet the unique requirements of space industry operations, including clean rooms and specialised laboratories
  • Proven ability to coordinate with space mission teams to support their operational needs
  • Experience ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations and standards
  • Proven track record in staying updated on changes in space industry regulations and implementing necessary adjustments
  • Experience implementing robust security measures to protect sensitive information and technology
  • Proven ability to coordinate with security teams to ensure the safety of personnel and assets
Recommendations:
  • A degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Previous work experience within the space industry or related high-tech sectors
  • Experience in implementing sustainable practices and energy-efficient solutions
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance standards
Special Requirements:
  • Assist with maintenance work required after hours to minimize disruptions during office hours.
  • Will be required to attend to after-hours emergencies.
