ABOUT THE ROLE

1.1. Job Purpose

As a Fabrication Process Engineer on the production floor, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of manufacturing processes, ensuring smooth operations and troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise during production. You will also be responsible for closing the gap between the engineering team the production floor on all technical (drawing/model), engineering principals, and manufacturing processes. You all also make sure the Work in Progress (WIP) program will be adhere too and expanded with continues feedback to the engineering team.
1.2. Describe the role and its core responsibilities

Managing Shift Operations

  • Technical Oversight: Monitor and oversee all technical aspects of production processes, engineering drawings, WIP tracking, including equipment setup and overall understanding of standards and product specifications.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues with engineering teams as needed to address problems.
  • Training and Development: Train new team members on production procedures, engineering drawings and WIP tracking.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate production processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Implement engineering changes and enhancements as needed to optimize production performance.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all engineering processes meet quality standards and specifications by conducting regular inspections and addressing any deviations or non-conformities promptly.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate drawings by de-briefs of production. Generate reports and communicate key findings to management regularly.
  • Ensure a detailed hand-over between shifts xe2x80x93 including a written account in the Hand-over Book.
  • Establish and enforce hourly production targets to ensure efficient output.
  • Maintain a relentless focus on achieving the highest product quality standards, and ensure WIP tracking is done timeously and continuously.
  • Ensure production counts meet designated quotas and allow for contingencies.
  • Oversee the signing of delivery notes between different departments.
  • Facilitate two-way communication between team members and management, promoting culture of respect and teamwork, open dialogue and problem-solving.
  • Maintain discipline within the shift, addressing any behavioural or performance issues promptly and fairly.

Ensuring ISO Standards Compliance
  • Ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards at all times to maintain a secure work environment. ISO files must be signed of monthly.
  • Guarantee that all staff members receive adequate training on relevant machines and processes; ensure DSTI is filled prior to the start of the work cycle.
  • Verify and sign quality sheets for each machine and process to ensure product quality consistency xe2x80x93 while WIP is just being implemented.
  • Uphold housekeeping standards throughout the shift.

General Management
  • Efficiently manage the shift, ensuring smooth operations and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Complete shift records and promptly report any non-conformances
  • Manage and maintain employee times on EDMA.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork among shift employees.
  • Perform performance management responsibilities for shift staff.
  • Conduct hand-overs to align goals, expectations, and performance metrics.
  • Establish and nurture a collaborative relationship with the factory manager, promoting effective communication and shared objectives.
  • Take necessary actions to address disciplinary issues and conflicts, in compliance with company policies.

Ad hoc Responsibilities
  • Willingness to respond to any reasonable requests from the Manager, ensuring a flexible and collaborative approach to tasks.
  • Overtime will be required from time-to-time, and you will be required to work overtime with the operational staff under your supervision.

1.3. Minimum experience / requirements & Skills
To excel in this pivotal role within the manufacturing sector, candidates must possess the following qualifications and attributes:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Previous experience in a technical leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in proactive problem-solving and the ability to think creatively to resolve challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Prior experience in management and oversight roles.
  • Commitment to high professional ethical standards and professionalism.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivation and the capability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Maintains a calm and professional demeanour, even in demanding situations.
  • Effective delegation of responsibilities to optimize team performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to find solutions quickly when faced with challenges.
  • A commitment to staying at the forefront of technology and innovation.

1.4 Minimum qualifications
  • Diploma in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of production processes and equipment, including but not limited to machinery, robotics, automation systems, and control systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire team members
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office and manufacturing software systems.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
