The External Sales Representative is a client-facing, results-driven role responsible for identifying opportunities, expanding our customer base, and ensuring that clients receive outstanding service and support. Objectives of the Role
Represent the company professionally with strong knowledge of our product range, value-added services, and operational capabilities.
Generate revenue through new business development and the growth of existing accounts.
Research customer needs and identify how our solutions meet their operational and commercial requirements.
Plan effectively, manage a sales pipeline, and meet sales targets set by management.
Build and maintain long-term customer relationships that contribute to client retention and basket expansion.
Support company sales, marketing, and operational strategies to ensure a consistently high-quality customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
Create and implement an effective sales plan aligned with company objectives.
Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities through cold calling, prospecting, and networking.
Conduct needs analyses to understand client requirements and present suitable solutions.
Achieve agreed-upon monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
Customer Relationship Management
Build, maintain, and grow long-term relationships with clients across assigned territories.
Conduct regular client visits to assess needs, gather feedback, and identify additional sales opportunities.
Resolve customer queries and issues promptly to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Monitor customer behaviours, buying patterns, and potential risks; report concerns to management.
Pricing, Products & Market Awareness
Maintain understanding of product range, pricing, GP expectations, and stock availability.
Monitor competitor activity, industry trends, and market conditions to support sales strategies.
Assist in recommending pricing adjustments, discounts, or customer proposals in line with company policy and GP requirements.
Participate in product presentations, tasting sessions, demonstrations, and marketing initiatives.
Sales Reporting & Administration
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all sales activities, customer interactions, and opportunities using CRM / pipeline tools.
Track and analyse sales metrics to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
Prepare sales reports, forecasts, and feedback for management as required.
Complete all administrative tasks timeously, including call reports, credit applications, pricing requests, and customer onboarding requirements.
Collaboration & Company Representation
Work closely with sales support, procurement, operations, warehouse, and finance teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
Communicate customer needs, feedback, and potential opportunities clearly to internal teams.
Attend industry events, trade shows, and exhibitions to expand networks and generate leads.
Uphold company standards, values, and service expectations in all customer interactions.
