The Fresh Produce Exporters' Forum (FPEF) Graduate Placement Programme is a proudly South African initiative aimed at driving transformation in the fresh fruit export industry. It offers high-potential black South African graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in logistics, commercial, and technical (post-harvest quality management) roles at leading fruit export companies. This one-year internship is designed to equip graduates with practical skills, industry exposure, and professional development in a real-world business environment, with the potential to grow into long-term career opportunities. The programme plays a vital role in integrating talented individuals into the commercial and operational heart of the industry, in line with BEE objectives.

A leading fresh fruit and vegetable exporter is offering a graduate internship for an Export Logistics Coordinator to support its global air freight operations. This role is ideal for a graduate who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment and is passionate about precision, timing, and teamwork.
Key Learning Areas and Responsibilities: * Export Coordination

  • Assist in planning and managing daily air freight exports of fresh produce to international markets.
  • Learn how to secure cargo space with freight forwarders and airlines based on forecasted volumes and customer orders.
  • Support coordination of loading schedules, packhouse dispatches, and collection timing to maintain cold chain integrity.
  • Export Documentation
  • Gain experience in preparing and verifying export documentation including air waybills, invoices, packing lists, phytosanitary certificates, export permits, and certificates of origin.
  • Understand the importance of documentation accuracy to prevent clearance delays.
  • Learn to verify freight invoices and cross-check against quotations.
  • Communication and Coordination
  • Act as a support contact between internal teams (Sales, Procurement, Quality), freight agents, and customers.
  • Assist in notifying stakeholders of delays, flight changes, or operational challenges.
  • Develop professional communication skills and build positive relationships with service providers.
  • Reporting and Record-Keeping
  • Maintain shipment tracking logs and documentation archives.
  • Learn to use logistics systems and tracking tools effectively.

Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Previous exposure to logistics or export environments (e.g., vacation work or part-time roles) will be advantageous.
