Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education:
NQF 9 MSc in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
Registration with a recognized professional body as a Professional Natural Scientist
Desired Education:
NQF 10 PhD in Chemistry or Natural Sciences
Minimum four(4) years' experience in the water related research and development environment.
Working experience on specialized instruments such as ICP-MS, XRF, PAMAS and UV-Vis Spectrophotometer
Code B driver's license with the driving skills to pass Rand Water's driver competency test.
Primary Duties
Plan and execute the evaluation water treatment chemicals and online instruments
Coordinate all the technical work in the laboratory and the pilot plant
Keep up to date with technical developments, to improve efficiency
Oversee, projects, reports and documentation
Oversee calibration and maintenance of all laboratory handheld and pilot plant instruments
Oversee method development and operation of high-tech laboratory instruments such as ICP-MS, XRF, PAMAS and AAS UV-Vis spectrophotometer
Investigate, and or assist in water treatment process optimization and implementation initiatives
Increase the knowledge base on water treatment chemicals by conducting and reporting on empirical research and projects
Provide input for strategy and policy documents on water treatment practices
Developing research proposals in conjunction with other research agencies and institutions
Perform research in collaboration with external organisations.
Assist with the training of staff.
Ensure that work is performed in an environment that conforms to all aspects of the relevant SHE acts and that all systems comply in terms of ISO systems
Knowledge
Strong Chemistry background
Thorough knowledge of the water supply cycle and water treatment processes.
Knowledge of the underlying chemistry, biology, and microbiology in water treatment
Strong knowledge of specialized analytical instruments such as ICP-MS, FTIR, XRF, PAMAS and UV Vis spectrophotometry
Statistical analysis.
Computer literacy
