About the Role

EDS Switchboards is seeking a meticulous and highly experienced QC Inspector to join our production team. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring that every board leaving our facility meets strict internal quality standards, client specifications, and statutory safety requirements. You will be the final gatekeeper of quality, overseeing the process from initial assembly through to final testing.

Key Responsibilities & Functions

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following technical and administrative functions:

Technical Inspections:

Mechanical Inspection:

Verify the structural integrity of enclosures, ensuring all busbars, brackets, and components are mounted according to GA (General Arrangement) drawings.

Copper Work Verification

: Inspect busbar alignments, clearances, and torque settings to ensure electrical and mechanical stability.

Wiring & Continuity

: Conduct thorough point-to-point wiring checks against schematic diagrams; verify wire sizing, ferrule numbering, and termination quality.

Flash Testing & Pre-commissioning:

Assist or oversee insulation and pressure testing (Flash Testing) to ensure the board is safe for live connection.

Quality Management (ISO 9001):

Non-Conformance Management: Identify defects and issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). You will work with production leads to perform root-cause analysis and verify that corrective actions are implemented. Floating QC: Conduct random "on-the-floor" spot checks during the assembly and wiring phases to catch errors before they become costly rework. Final Sign-off: Complete and sign off all QC Check sheets and Test Reports, ensuring they are filed correctly in the project folder.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure all tested boards comply with SANS standards and the OHS Act.

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience:

Minimum of 5-8 years' experience as a QC Inspector specifically within the LV Switchboard manufacturing industry.

Technical Knowledge:

Deep understanding of electrical schematics, GA drawings, and wiring standards.

Attributes:

Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills (to explain defects to wiremen), and the ability to work under pressure to meet delivery deadlines.

Trade:

A relevant trade qualification (Electrical/Wireman's License) will be a distinct advantage.
