Role Description
In conjunction with the CLCO, develop the business strategy into operational execution plans, objectives and monitoring mechanisms for the Legal function to ensure that the strategy is under execution while being closely monitored for success. Manage multiple business priorities concurrently while delivering on the business-as-usual requirements of the company. Develop areas of improvement across own business unit and interfaces with other business units to contribute towards a more streamlined business operation. Investigate and understand impact analysis of the
business unit as it relates to the companies operating model.Manage the impact of the business unit function to ensure that the company objectives and targets are met. Develops the necessary plan/s to ensure that the Legal team(s) meets agreed goals and objectives. Coach and mentor own team members as well as other employees in the company for performance improvement and career development. Contribute to the development of legal best practice in the company, with aim of driving continuous improvement and innovation.
In conjunction with the CLCO Management Team participate in and contribute to the Strategic Business Plan by: Participating in the identification of long-term strategic direction, goals, and objectives for the 3 to 5 years; Cascading the Strategic Plan down to the annual operating plan within Legal Department;Analysing and identifying functional risks and developing mitigating plans to address these; Ensuring that Legal Department's medium to short term goals and objectives aligns with the Business objectives for LTSA.Providing legal and business counsel, establishing, and influencing appropriate ethical standards and legal consideration for LTSA.Ensuring that clear strategic medium to short term goals and objectives are cascaded to South Africa from a legal perspective. Providing strategic leadership and management of the LIT SA Legal function. Responsible as LITSA specialist to advise on the legal strategy that the company should be taking on all legal matters in consultation with the CLCO, group legal subject matter experts and external legal service providers. Advise and brief external counsel as directed by the CEO and or Chief Legal & Compliance officer on matters that need to be managed by the company's legal service providers. Responsible as company-wide specialist participate in and to provide legal support for all commercial agreements with the various stakeholders of the business. Responsible as company-wide specialist to manage all litigation matters on behalf of LTSA.In conjunction with the CLCO, setting internal legal policies and processes. Advises LTSA peers on the mitigation of potential legal risks regarding business decisions and takes correctiveaction;Develops strategies in response to litigation including negotiating settlement agreements where appropriate; Oversees LTSA's legal services plans, policies, annual work programs and processes; Manages the commissioning of the external legal advice and services and where appropriate works alongside external legal counsel to minimise LTSA's legal risk and costs; Initiates legal proceedings or actions as approved and agreed; Provides advice on any legal issues/implications to user groups by drafting and vetting through agreements with third parties; Ensures appropriate contract management processes are applied. Monitor and control legal expenditure monthly and alert the CL&CO regarding any variances (including management of external legal service providers.
Manage, develop and sustain effective working relations with Strategic Partners, Clients and other key stakeholders to ensure that LTSA's objectives are achieved, and a universally positive impression of the company is maintained.Provide exemplary advice to the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team in relation to stakeholder engagement legal issues and activities. Management of relationships between line of business and the various business partners to deliver superior service. Maintain and manage various stakeholder relationships externally to ensure best practice in terms of delivery. Provision of expertise to lines of business to ensure the timely resolution of all queries and requests. Lead interactions with internal and external auditors to deliver on favorable outcomes.
Ensure that all human resources are appropriately managed in terms of performance and development including performance management and career development initiatives. Manage legal staff to achieve the overall departmental objectives. Mentoring (including training thereof) of all direct reports in line with their performance management objectives. Manage costs associated with staff such as overtime, allowances, leave and training, to ensure they meet requirements set out in policy as well as those directed to meet organizational objectives.
Bachelor of Laws: Essential
Bachelor of Commerce in law: Desirable
Extended qualification in law or management: Desirable
10 to 12 years' experience in a similar or related environment and 10 of which should be in Senior Management position: Essential
10 to 12 years good understanding of financial management: Essential
10 to 12 years proficient in contract law and contract negotiation: Essential
10 to 12 years strong technical know-how, good managerial skills and drive to lead manage the team: Essential
5 to 7 years' experience in Telco or Tech environment: Desirable
