Job Summary:
The Estimator - Civil Engineering Construction is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, tenders, and budgets for civil construction projects. This role involves analysing drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs to support competitive and profitable project bids.
Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years' estimating experience in civil engineering or construction.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction methods and materials.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of contracts and tendering procedures (FIDIC, NEC, GCC advantageous).
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Estimating and Tendering: Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering and construction projects. Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope. Compile tender pricing, bills of quantities, and cost breakdowns. Prepare and submit competitive tenders within specified deadlines.
  • Cost Analysis and Budgeting: Assess material, labour, plant, and subcontractor costs. Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations for accuracy and competitiveness. Identify cost risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving measures. Assist with project budgets and cost control during project execution.
  • Project and Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise with engineers, project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing. Attend tender clarification meetings and site inspections as required. Provide technical and commercial input during bid reviews.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate estimating records and tender documentation. Prepare cost reports and estimate comparisons for management review. Support contract handovers by providing detailed cost information to project teams.
  • Market & Cost Intelligence: Keep up to date with market trends, material pricing, and labour costs. Maintain pricing databases and historical cost records.
