It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.



As the ERP Applications Specialist, you will be responsible for the application lifecycle management processes related to ERP applications in line with enterprise guidelines, policies and practices.

More of your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and implementing new and alternative approaches to performing business processes made available by the availability of information and communications technology
  • Manage the effective operation of all ERP applications, including the provision of specialist support, incident and demand management
  • Provide the business interface for all ERP applications services and solutions by providing specialist IT support related to business queries or escalated issues
  • Provide technical expertise in relation to the ERP applications through involvement in interpreting business demands and supporting the business analysis processes associated with these applications
  • Support the articulation and unpacking of functional and business demand requests and requirements and participate in pipeline reviews and prioritisation discussions to identify value for business
  • Monitor service provider quality of delivery and support on a daily, weekly and monthly activities (as needed) to resolve issues and ensure application stability and performance
  • Act as the technical point of contact related to ERP Applications and support business integration across applications within the mining technical system environment
  • Drive seamless business integration across the Enterprise Application landscape, collaborate with peer EA specialists and engage with the various business integration coordinators to proactively manage integrations points between the ERP and other applications
  • Manage interaction points with business specialists and owners of systems and processes to drive collaboration and establish and ensure optimal engagements and ways of working
  • Support an integrated release management process for ERP applications and ensure that it is delivered in conjunction with key stakeholders, relevant functional teams and service providers
  • Advise on and implement ERP application and process improvements
  • Support root cause analysis and identify ERP applications solution improvement
  • Opportunities from data trend analysis and customer needs/input
  • Optimise ERP application solutions across the business by collaborating with specialist service providers and liaise with key stakeholders regarding business needs
  • Support governance for IM solutions and ERP application services in accordance with enterprise guidelines, policies and practices
  • Support risk management for ERP applications to manage emerging risks
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Management or related field (NQF Level 7)
Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Information Management, preferably in the mining industry
  • Solid experience in SAP ERP and across its environment
  • Good experience in the management of complex enterprise applications environment
  • Good experience in managing multiple outsourced/ external service providers
Additional Information
  • Proficient knowledge of mining and other relevant legislation applicable to Thungela Resources, incl. Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, No 25 of 2002, Promotion of Access to Information Act, No 2 of 2000, Protection of Personal Information Act, No 4 of 2013
  • Advanced understanding of applications lifecycle management
  • Proficient understanding of the management of interfaces and integrations
  • Knowledge of financial management and resource management in the IM Environment
  • Proficient knowledge of stakeholder management
  • Proficient understanding of ISO 27000; COBIT 2019, and ITIL 4
  • Advanced knowledge of Thungela Resources policies, procedures, standards and systems as it relates to IM
