Providing direct, holistic care to mothers and newborns throughout the birthing process and postpartum period.
Assisting with procedures:
Carrying out assigned duties and assisting with medical interventions as directed by supervisors.
Monitoring and assessment:
Observing and reporting on the condition of patients and their newborns, including monitoring for adverse reactions.
Medication administration:
Administering prescribed medications and vaccines as directed.
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions and patient care.
Safety and compliance:
Adhering to hospital policies, protocols, and infection prevention standards, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Collaboration:
Working with the multi-disciplinary team, including physicians and other healthcare providers, to manage patient care.
Health education:
Providing health education to patients and families.
Enrolled Nurse Certificate:
A formal qualification as an enrolled nurse.
South African Nursing Council(SANC) Registration:
Must be registered with the SANC as an Enrolled Nurse.
Compliance:
Adherence to the SANC code for enrolled nurses and all relevant healthcare legislation.
Experience:
A year or more of experience in a specialized unit like obstetrics is often preferred, though not always essential for entry-level positions.
Other skills:
Computer literacy, strong communication, patient assessment skills, and knowledge of scientific nursing principles and basic life support are often required.
