Emergency Department
Required Clinical Competencies
Demonstrated competence in:
Monitoring and recording
cardiac rhythms
Accurate
vital signs assessment
Use of
cardiac monitors and telemetry systems
Early recognition and
prompt escalation of abnormal findings
Knowledge of:
Basic cardiac conditions (e.g. MI, heart failure, arrhythmias)
Infection prevention and control standards
Ability to work
under supervision of a Professional Nurse
in a high-acuity setting
Preferred / Advantageous

ECG monitoring or basic rhythm interpretation course
? Previous experience in a
CCU or cardiology-focused unit
? Familiarity with
private hospital clinical governance standards
? Computer literacy and electronic patient record documentation experience
Scope of Practice
The Enrolled Nurse in CCU will:
Provide nursing care
within SANC scope of practice
Monitor cardiac patients and report changes promptly
Assist with preparation for cardiac procedures
Support Professional Nurses during emergencies and procedures
Deliver patient-centred basic nursing care in a critical environment
Independent clinical decision-making, initiation of advanced cardiac drugs, or leading resuscitation remains the responsibility of the Professional Nurse.
