Job Description


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product & Project Management

  • Lead optimization initiatives to increase production efficiency and output (e.g., increasing clip output from 15 to 18 bars per minute).
  • Conduct operational assessments to identify areas requiring capital investment.
  • Develop and manage the Capital Expenditure (CapEx) budget, including detailed cost justifications for management approval.
  • Oversee the acquisition and implementation of new production equipment.
  • Drive the successful introduction of new manufacturing processes for product launches.
  • Lead strategic projects, including plant expansion, waste reduction, and process optimization.
Legal & Compliance (OHSA & ISO 14001)
  • Serve as the appointed GMR2, ensuring full compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Chair monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings and oversee the resolution of outstanding issues.
Maintenance Management
  • Achieve 90%+ machine availability through the implementation of a robust preventive maintenance strategy.
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget and control maintenance-related expenditures.
  • Ensure critical spares inventory is maintained to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Lead and execute the annual December shutdown maintenance project.
  • Oversee all maintenance and toolroom operations, including staffing, task delegation, and performance management.
Engineering & Technical Operations
  • Continuously enhance tools, machinery, and processes for improved efficiency and quality.
  • Design, manufacture, and implement new production tooling and machinery.
  • Maintain and manage the Engineering Asset Register, ensuring all equipment is accounted for and in optimal condition.
  • Uphold drawing office standards and ensure all engineering documentation is correctly maintained.
  • Monitor and analyse energy usage relative to production output for continuous improvement.
SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk & Quality)
  • Promote a safety-first culture; ensure personal and team compliance with all SHERQ standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks through hazard identification, risk assessments, and implementation of corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum Education: Diploma or B-Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: At least 10 years in a maintenance leadership role, preferably as a Foreman in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Key Skills & Attributes
  • Proficient in SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Hands-on experience with operating machine tools and production equipment.
  • Strong background in continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma is a plus).
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
  • Creative, innovative thinker with a proactive mindset.
