Job Purpose
Provide visionary technical leadership across multiple initiatives, designing and enabling fit-for-purpose, end-to-end technology solutions that span multiple platforms and engineering disciplines. Guide, coach, and uplift engineering practitioners, drive solution integrity, and shape the future engineering landscape for Nedbank. As an Engineering Lead in CBO, play a central role in the organisation's digital modernisation journey - including the transition toward Camunda BPMN/DMN workflow automation, modern integration patterns, and cloud-aligned architectures - ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with business strategy.
Job Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of integrated, cross-technology solutions that span multiple squads and programmes.
• Mentor and enable engineers, uplifting capability across software development, solution design, automation, and architecture.
• Break down complex problems and produce pragmatic, innovative technical designs that meet business needs.
• Drive the creation of BPMN/DMN-based workflows and guide their implementation in Camunda 7/8.
• Provide governance over architectural standards and ensure alignment with Nedbank engineering guardrails.
• Influence key stakeholders, secure buy-in, and champion engineering improvements across teams.
• Troubleshoot and problem-solve complex system, integration, and workflow challenges.
• Manage decomposition of work, sequencing, and resourcing to support delivery objectives.
• Promote long-term, product-centric thinking and sustainability in system design.
• Seek opportunities to improve business processes, models and systems though agile thinking.

Preferred Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering / Information Systems
Essential Certifications

• Camunda Modeler / Developer Certification
• Cloud certification (Azure / AWS)
• Confluent Kafka Certification

Minimum Experience Level
7+ years' experience in software engineering or solution design.

• Deep practical experience with Java/Spring Boot, microservices, and API design.
• Experience with BPMN/DMN and workflow automation tools (Camunda, IBM BPM, Activiti).
• Solid understanding of cloud foundations, modern architectures, and DevOps practices.
• Proven leadership experience mentoring engineers or leading technical delivery streams.
• Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and communities such as the Engineering Lead Academy.
