The Role

Pele Green Energy is seeking a talented, highly motivated, and self-driven Electrical Engineer. The engineer will report to the Head of Operations. The Engineer will provide engineering support to the Project Development, Asset Management and Constuction Managment teams across the portfolio of projects with the Group, during development, construction and operational phases of the projects.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Enginering (Primary)

• Detailed analysis of electrical engineering LV (LV xe2x89xa4 1 000 V), MV (MV xe2x89xa4 33 kV) and HV (132kV) design drawings (equipment, layouts and configurations,);
• Analyse grid integration studies, Bill of Materials, technical reports, engineering designs and drawings, and yield studies to provide inputs to the development cycles of projects
• Strong and sound knowledge of electrical distribution designs, including primary equipment (transformers, HV/MV cable networks, Switchgear , etc) and Protection & Control systems applicable to IPP infrastructure.
• Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks (AutoCAD, PV*Syst, Wind*Syst / WAsP).
• Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish construction and installation standards and specifications;
• Interpret Load flow studies and Protection study reports.
• Sound Knowledge on Secondary and Automation applications.
• Analysis of electrical schematic drawings and single line diagrams;
• xe2x80xa2Management of switchgear, transformer, AC breaker and specialist equipment manufacturers and/or suppliers (verification of specification conformation and factory acceptance testing);
• Coordinate/oversight of manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, regulatory and customer reequipments;
• Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment;
• Develop budgets, estimating labour, material and construction costs;
• Cost evaluation of electrical engineering scope of work, including equipment and construction costs;
• Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects;
• Review of Communications network designs for Power Plants (on-site) and Head Office based data center environments;
• Collect field surveys and study maps, graphs, diagrams and other data to identify and correct system problems;
• Full knowledge and co-ordination of South African Grid Code performance, both during testing and commissioning, as well as operational lifetime
• Compiling all necessary technical documentation and liaising with Grid stakeholders, Eskom Control Centers, Single Byers Office, etc
• Reporting to project stakeholders

Operations

• Review of operations and maintenance report and data from the operator;
• Recommend improvements of preventative and corrective maintenance and make recommendations of predictive maintenance;
• Review of expert engineering report and data from the external service providers;
• Plant/asset performance supervision- ensuring that the plant preforms according to the PPA and the relevant contractual performance ratios;
• Intergate condition monitoring and optimisation- improving generation and revenue as consequence;
• Plant (re) commissioning - ensuring that all systems and components of the plant are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to the operation requirements;
• Technical Rick mitigation in accordance with the SANS standards and applicable electrical standards during the implementation of Engineering Retrofits, Engineering changes, and plant optimisation activities;
• Technical recommendation to ensure safety maintenance and operability practices and efficient utilisation of systems space and equipment spacing;
• Re-powering and upgrades xe2x80x93 ensuring that all additional upgrades required or needed to be done on the plant are done to the satisfaction of the Sponsors and Lenders and all necessary reporting is done;
• Monitoring install/retrofit xe2x80x93 ensuring that all necessary installation or retrofitting of equipment by the O&M Contractor or external contractors is within acceptable standards and does not hinder the performance of the plant and daily production;
• Plant design review xe2x80x93 ensuring that all new designs are compliant to various international standards and are satisfactory to the requirements of the Sponsors and Lenders;
• Grid code compliance xe2x80x93 ensuring that SPV is fully compliant with the requirements of the South African grid code and necessary studies are completed;
• Harmonic and fault levels studies xe2x80x93 overview and monitoring of all the studies and tests needed to ensure that SPV is compliant according to the Grid Code and Power Quality Guidelines requirements for Harmonics and fault levels;

Engineering and Construction

• Technical review of complete designs, equipment sizing, drawings, specifications, data sheets, and other supplementary design work in the degree of detail necessary to enable the client's inspections to clearly determine the engineering, procurement manufacturing, and construction work requirements;
• Review of status of engineering progress and deliverables;
• Tracking engineering change requests, initial operation, testing, and remedying of defects;
• Receipt and approval of the EPC final dossier;
• Ensure that installations and applications are in line with the technical specifications and safety standards.
• Construction Management participation with the Project implementation team;
• Technical reviews and assistance with Technical Due Diligence procedures.

Technical advice and assistance to Project Development

• Assisting in the scope of work for the Ownerxe2x80x99s Technical Specifications ;
• Assisting in conducting technical due diligence, including review and update of technical aspects of project documents such as the Grid impact study, Hydrology report, Geotechnical report, Technology assessment, Energy Forecast, Performance ratios, NPV, Load Profiles, PVSyst model files, Resource assessments, Topographical surveys, Environmental Impact Assessments, Codes and Standards, etc.
• Planning and executing engineering activities needed for any RFPs related to Services, Supply, and Works: preparation of the technical package to be provided to Procurement Function within the Organization, Bids Technical evaluation and ranking.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc (Eng) in Electrical Mechatronic or Electronic Engineering (other streams can be motivated)
• Minimum 5 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in engineering design and/or project engineering (within the renewable energy industry)
• Ability to work across multiple work streams, projects, and contracts
• People and Team Management
• Sound Understanding and knowledge of database systems, SCADA integration etc would be advantageous;
• Proficient in MS Word, MS Projects, MS Power Point and MS Excel
• Has Driversxe2x80x99 License and own car xe2x80x93 site visits are required
