We are seeking an experienced Conveyor Belt Electrician to support the electrical installation, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of conveyor belt systems within a mining or industrial environment. The successful candidate will work on power systems, control systems, protection devices, and safety interlocks associated with conveyor belt operations.
Key Responsibilities
Install, repair and maintain electrical systems on conveyor belts (motors, gearboxes, pull-key switches, belt drift switches, speed switches, rip detectors, protection devices, etc.).
Carry out fault-finding and troubleshooting on motor control centres (MCCs), VSDs, soft starters and conveyor control panels.
Inspect and test motors, isolators, starters, sensors and electrical interlocks on conveyor systems.
Wire and terminate cables, junction boxes, panels, field devices and conveyor protection switches.
Conduct planned and preventative maintenance on conveyor belt electrical systems.
Respond to breakdowns, conveyor stoppages and emergency faults.
Perform continuity, insulation resistance and earth loop tests.
Ensure compliance with mine safety standards, lock-out procedures and SANS electrical codes.
Collaborate with mechanical and C&I teams during installations, shutdowns and upgrades.
Complete job cards, inspection reports and handover documentation.
Minimum Requirements
Trade Test: Electrician (Red Seal or Section 13/26D).
3-5 years experience with conveyor belt electrical systems (mining or plant environment).
Strong knowledge of MCCs, VSDs, protection circuits and conveyor control systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
Medically fit for work in mining/industrial environments.
Valid driver's licence.
