Our client, an internationally established Manufacturing organization, based in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town has an opportunity available for an Electrical / Automation Engineering Technician.
The Electrical Engineering Technician will be responsible for the overall analysis, design, integration, and technical implementation/expansions of all the assigned machinery throughout all facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with the Electrical/Automation Engineer.

Responsibilities:
Design, compliance, and management:

• Defines the system's global architecture and prepares project feasibility assessments from an electrical and automation standpoint.
• Assist in the design of electrical and automated control systems.
• Ensures full compliance of work undertaken, including the calibration of sensors and instruments.
• Assist in identifying all applicable (and ensure compliance to) industry guidelines & standards as defined by regulatory agencies.
• Assist in the creation of project technical performance specifications.
• Selects the appropriate technology for projects (PLC, Drive, Instruments, Sensors, Valves, Actuators, MCC, Motors, etc.) and ensures that they are fully compatible.
• Plant systems include Low to Medium voltage power system, cable and raceway design, motor control and switchgear equipment, transformers and protection/control, as well as plant lighting and grounding.

Drawings:

• Assist the Electrical/Automation Engineer with the creation and updating of drawings for construction of the physical components of electrical and automation systems.

• Single Line Diagrams, Motor Control Schematics/specifications, Control panel layout & design; and
• Electrical power distribution systems design, Lighting design, UPS sizing, specification, and design; and
• Cable tray and raceway design
• I/O wiring; and Loop drawings
• Network (i.e. Internet IP, etc.) system design

Reporting and Coordination:

• Assisting in the coordination of all assigned machinery maintenance.
• Attend frequent, formal maintenance meetings with electrical/design/mechanical maintenance teams to ensure outputs continually satisfy design goals.
• Responsible for planning & scheduling electrical systems upgrades/improvements and coordinate with electrical/design/maintenance teams.
• Responsible for scheduling/planning Lock-out-tag-out procedures with electrical/ maintenance/ production teams to ensure safe working conditions .
• Responsible for planning/researching power saving/managing strategies and liaise with electrical/ maintenance/ projects/ management.

Hardware and Software:

• Contribute to the building of a continuous improvement environment and ongoing functional activities.
• Responsible for PLC , VSD& HMI programming & backups (Including Networking & integration of all industrial equipment.)
• Responsible for Remote support on breakdowns/standby when required
• Responsible for Installation, diagnostics & repair of all industrial hardware related components (within electrical cabinets)
• Aiding in the design and functioning of new machines as well as the maintenance thereof.
• Responsible for SCADA development/programming.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Senior Certificate / Grade 12
• Eng Mechanical degree
• 5+ yearsxe2x80x99 experience in a similar role
• Industrial Automation experience
• Electrical Engineering and Information Systems Automation experience.
• Experience in PLC and HMI Programming.
• Solid understanding of computer programming and software development and testing.
