to join our technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating precise technical drawings and wiring diagrams for Distribution boards. This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between engineering design and our production floor (Metal manufacturing, Assembly, Copper, and Wiring).
Key Functions and Responsibilities
1. Technical Design & Draughting
Develop comprehensive electrical schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and general arrangement (GA) drawings using AutoCAD or specialized electrical design software.
Design 3D layouts for switchboard enclosures, ensuring optimal placement of components and copper busbars.
Produce detailed "As-Built" drawings following the completion of projects.
2. Production Support & Integration
Translate client specifications and engineering designs into actionable production drawings for the workshop.
Collaborate with the
Copper Work
and
Wiring
departments to ensure technical feasibility and resolve design queries on the production floor.
Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to assist the procurement department in sourcing correct components.
3. Quality & ISO Compliance
Ensure all drawings adhere to
SANS
(South African National Standards) and
ISO 9001
quality management protocols.
Maintain version control of all drawings within the company's
Master Document Register
, ensuring the workshop never works from obsolete designs.
Participate in root-cause analysis when design-related
Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
are issued.
4. Safety & Standards
Ensure all designs allow for safe access, maintenance, and thermal management within the distribution boards.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Light/Heavy Current) or a specialized Draughting Qualification.
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in draughting specifically for LV switchboards or the electrical manufacturing industry.
Technical Skills:
Mastery of
AutoCAD Electrical
(EPLAN or SolidWorks Electrical experience is a plus). Deep understanding of electrical components (Circuit breakers, busbars, protection relays).
Ability to read and interpret complex electrical specifications.
Competencies:
High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong communication skills to liaise between the office and the workshop.
