Job Description


The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 10 yearsxe2x80x99 experience. The candidate must have experience in High Voltage substations at Transmission level as well as Distribution level, inclusive of the protection, telecontrol, metering and control systems, executed under the Eskom Self-build agreement. Experience in Medium voltage switchgear systems, as well as a sound knowledge of overhead lines as well as medium voltage reticulation networks. Experience in managing the Eskom design procedure will also be required. The incumbent would be exposed to Wind, Solar and Battery Energy Storage systems within the Renewable Energy space.

Skills, Experience and Education;

  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree/National Diploma in electrical (Heavy Current) Engineering (NQF level 7 recognized qualification by SAQA);
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering within the build environment, with a focus on renewable energy;
  • Registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) as P.R. Eng or P.R. Eng Technologist is preferable;
  • Proficiency in the 6 stages of engineering (Report stage, Preliminary design stage, Design and tender stage, Working drawings, Construction stage, Targeted procurement);
  • Strong knowledge of contracts negotiation and management;
  • OHS Act regulations, facilities management, financial, project management, and engineering procurement practices;
  • Familiarity with relevant SANS standards in the engineering space;
  • Experience in cost analysis, stakeholder relationship management, project cost engineering, and construction management;
  • Willingness to travel
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, CAD, and other relevant software;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and big-picture thinking.

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision;

Key Duties and Responsibilities;
  • Conduct detailed site audits and assessments;
  • Utilize CAD software (proficient in Autodesk and Revit) for detailed design and drafting;
  • Develop budgets, Bill of Quantities (BOQs), and cost reports;
  • Draft comprehensive technical reports for executive committees;
  • Manage and lead staff effectively;
  • Oversee and execute projects from concept design to completion;
  • Manage multiple projects across the country, ensuring on-time and within budget delivery;
  • Implement contracts within budget constraints;
  • Maintain accurate records of contract awards and cancellations;
  • Prepare close-out project reports and ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Provide leadership, technical direction, and guidance to project teams.
