The person filling the lecturing post in the Department of Clothing and Textile Technology at CPUT will lecture in the following subject areas: Garment Construction 1A, Garment Construction 18, Clothing and Textiles Manufacture 1A, Clothing and Textiles Manufacture 18, Pattern Construction and CAD 1A, Pattern Construction and CAD 18.
Additionally, person will contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the department to enhance learning according to the needs of the industry and the department's learning & teaching goals.
Person should have a good knowledge of higher education landscape, good interpersonal and learner management skills and familiar with the learner management system like Blackboard would be of advantage.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience Lecturer
Master's degree in Clothing Management and Technology, Textile Science, Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, Arts (Design), Clothing Production or Clothing Design.
2 years' relevant experience is required. It should be lecturing manual and CAD patterns, garment production, manufacturing technology subjects and/or industry experience in garment manufacturing or processing and/or in a technical capacity in testing/research laboratory in a garment manufacturing company.
Familiarity with the learner management system like Blackboard would be of advantage.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Lecture in: Garment Construction 1A, Garment Construction 1B, Clothing and Textiles Manufacture 1A, Clothing and Textiles Manufacture 18, Pattern Construction and CAD 1A, Pattern Construction and CAD 1 B.
Involvement with the clothing and textile industry through the Technology Station in Clothing and Textiles and independent research projects.
Develop and prepare learning materials.
Supervise and mentor both undergraduate and post graduate students.
Contribute to research outputs through participation in research activities.
Assist with departmental administration.
Promotion or community participation, linkages outreach and industry liaison.
Curriculum development and evaluation.
Assessment and academic development.
Perform academic administrative duties.
Quality assurance.
Any other duties assigned by the department as per the operational requirements.
Competencies
Sound knowledge of Pattern Construction and CAD (theory and practical), Garment Construction (practical), Manufacturing Technology.
Well versed with the green and sustainable textile materials, products and manufacturing processes.
Updated knowledge about latest technological advances in the field of clothing and textile technology.
Proficiency in English (fluent written and spoken).
Good planning, administrative and organizational skills
Research and presentation skills.
Strong learner focus.
