Job Advert Summary




The Key Account Manager (KAM) will be responsible for growing Syntech's commercial relationships with leading eCommerce retailers, driving sales and strategic growth across the portfolio. This role blends strategic planning with hands-on execution, demanding adaptability, strong analytical capability, and a deep understanding of South Africa's Retail and eComm landscape.



The ideal candidate will demonstrate commercial acumen, sound judgment, and market awareness, with the ability to negotiate and execute complex strategies that deliver sustained (and improved) market growth, margins, and strengthened retailer partnerships.

Minimum Requirements




Experience


3 years' experience in eComm account management with a proven record of delivering measurable growth and significant milestones. Direct experience managing major online retail accounts (Takealot, Amazon, Makro, ODO, etc.). Experience within IT or Consumer Electronics distribution into retail channels is also advantageous.




Skills


Strong commercial and negotiation skills with P&L understanding and promotional modelling experience. Advanced Excel proficiency (formulas, pivot tables) and strong command of the Microsoft Office suite for analysis, reporting, daily work, and presentations. Proven ability to influence and manage stakeholders across internal departments and external partners (both above and below their station). Skilled in category planning, assortment strategy, and pricing optimisation to drive sales and manage profitability. Analytical and data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret performance metrics and translate insights into long-term vision and short-term actions. Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of simplifying complex information for diverse audiences.




Technical Aptitude


Comfortable operating in a technology-driven, fast-paced sales environment - ideally within consumer electronics or IT hardware categories. Ability to leverage data, automation, and digital tools to enhance efficiency. Understanding of AI and eComm platforms is advantageous.

Duties and Responsibilities




Sales Target Achievement


Develop and execute a robust sales plan for key accounts that align with company objectives (GP, market share, category growth, etc.) which strive for overachievement. Own monthly and quarterly target delivery - forecast accurately, manage gaps proactively, and implement corrective actions when performance deviates. Build and manage financial models for promotions and price support to drive sell-through while protecting margins and generating provisions.




Account Growth & Relationship Management


Build and maintain trusted senior relationships with buyers, planners, and key decision-makers, acting as Syntech's POC for the portfolio. Understand each retailer's platform dynamics (KYC, category rules, operational nuances) and tailor strategies to maximise performance and visibility. Uphold Syntech's core values to drive differentiation, trust, and deliver tangible value across all partnerships. Conduct regular business reviews (internal and external) to identify growth opportunities, assortment expansion, historical sale performance, etc. Collaborate cross-functionally and with retailer insights to develop relevant, high-performing product ranges and sale strategies that enhance mutual growth.




Strategic Planning, Promotions & Execution


Lead promotional calendar planning (anchor events, EDLP, flash deals, TAL NOW/MORE, etc.) and ensure alignment with national retail strategies. Manage end-to-end promotional execution - from briefing and creative development to activation, reconciliation, and post-analysis - ensuring ROI, deadlines, budget adherence, and other desired outcomes. Drive pricing and promotional strategies that balance short-term sell-through with sustainable margins, brand equity, and consumer trust.




Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination


Collaborate with procurement for demand planning to maintain accurate forecasts, reduce out-of-stocks and overstocking, and optimise sell-through for healthy stock levels within Syntech and for our retail partners. Coordinate with logistics and operations to ensure fulfilment readiness and SLA compliance.




Listing Excellence & SEO


Oversee catalogue quality to ensure listings meet Syntech's high standards (titles, images, descriptions, mapping, etc.), optimising for SEO, conversion, and customer engagement. Continuously audit and refine product listings to maintain accuracy, keyword relevance, and alignment with brand and eComm best practices - driving visibility, CI compliance, and sustained sales performance.




Reporting, Insights & Continuous Improvement


Produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reports (sales, GP, conversion, traffic, promotional ROI, etc.) and deliver clear, actionable insights to leadership and stakeholders. Identify and propose improvements to internal SOPs, sales processes, and GTM strategies to drive operational efficiency and business growth.




Marketing Optimisation


Collaborate with marketing teams to plan and deliver impactful digital campaigns, enhanced content (A listings), and paid media initiatives (e.g., Sponsored Ads) that improve visibility / indexing and conversion. Analyse campaign performance to identify optimisation opportunities, ensuring marketing investments deliver measurable ROI and align with category and brand goals. * Work closely with brand and retail partners to align messaging, creative execution, and timing across digital touchpoints - building a cohesive and effective eComm marketing funnel.
