Job Description

A well established casket manufacturer seeks to employ a Driver for the Empangeni Branch;

Job duties and responsibilities include but is not limited to;



Safely transporting company staff as well as various products and materials to and from specified locations in a timely manner.

Assisting with the loading and offloading of staff luggage, products, and materials.

Adjusting travel routes to avoid traffic congestion or road construction.

Promptly informing the company of any tickets issued against the company vehicle during work hours.

Ensuring that the company vehicle is always parked in areas that permit parking in order to avoid towing.

Keeping the company vehicle clean and properly maintained by ensuring regular washing, cleaning and vehicle maintenance.

Providing accurate time records of the company vehicle.

Reporting any accidents, injuries, and vehicle damage to management

Conducting checks on vehicles prior to using the vehicle and report any damages or maintenance issues to management ensuring that the vehicle is road worthy before engaging in trips or use of vehicle.

Ensure that deliveries to customers and branches are conducted in a manner that increases customer satisfaction through the standards delivered and efficient transporting of material, goods or equipment.

Engage the Line Manager to plan routes ahead of tine to determine the most expedient trip.

Collect goods, material and equipment were required.

Assist Clients, Driver Assistant or employees with loading and unloading of vehicle as and when required.

Adhere to cautious driving during bad weather conditions affecting the roads.

Ensure that you arrive at destinations on time as planned and scheduled.

Fulfil administrative needs as required.

Use vehicle navigation applications to determine appropriate routes where necessary.

Interact with Clients, Branch employees and Management in a professional manner at all times.

Ensure that the vehicle has sufficient fuel and fuelled up and is ready for use at all times.

Ensure fuel cards are signed in and out at the branch when returning from trips.

Report all repairs required to Management timeously.

Keep records of mileage and repairs of vehicle up to date at all times.

Safeguarding and taking full responsibility of stock, goods, material or equipment loaded on the company vehicle and trailer.

Check all loads are covered with a tarp, jacks and strap corner pieces are securely enforced and loads tied down in a proper manner.

Collect cheques, cash from clients in a responsible, honest and reliable manner.

Issue and receive necessary documentation from clients and branches for all trips, stocks, goods, material or equipment.

Ensure that all documentation and receipts are submitted to the Branch Administrator upon returning to the branch.

Address all queries identified on the trip sheet with the Trip Coordinator.

Trip expenses to be consolidated immediately and timeously with supporting documents with the Administrator and or Manager.

The company vehicle to be parked in a safe secure manner at the company premises together with the trailer upon returning from a trip and not taken home.

Should the vehicle leave the company premises and be taken home or to any other location without authorisation you will be subject to disciplinary action taken against you.

Time sheets to be completed regularly.

Ensure that the company and Road Traffic rules are followed and adhered to at all time.

Accountable, responsible and liable for speeding and parking fines whilst the company vehicle is in your possession and assigned to you.

To be in possession off at all times and answer your cell phone promptly and timeously.

To retain, maintain and be in possession of a valid driver's license at all times.

Assist with relief duties carrying out lawful legal instructions in the office and at branches during period where no work available.

Adhering to company policy and procedures and Health and Safety rules at all times.

Job requirements

Be in possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record with no traffic violations.

Minimum visual acuity of 20/50 (or corrected to 20/50)

Ability to lift heavy packages and luggage

Availability to work overtime, weekends and night shifts as required

Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour)

Sound knowledge of road safety regulations.

Working knowledge of local roads and routes.

The ability to utilize maps, GPS systems, and car manuals.

Punctual and reliable

Sober habits
High School Matric

Tertiary qualification an added advantage

Valid Driver's Licence Code 10 and above

At least 5 years or more successful driving experience

Proven customer service experience is preferred.
Note : Interviews and induction training will be conducted in Phoenix , 160 Aberdare Drive , (Head-Office)

Position is based in Empangeni
