Role description: Draftsman/Designer - Structural Mechanical and PipingObjective

As a Draftsman/Designer at this company, you will be responsible for producing precise and professional technical drawings that support the planning and execution of engineering and infrastructure projects. Working closely with engineers and project managers, you will translate design concepts and technical inputs into high-quality multi-disciplinary drawings that meet project specifications, industry standards, and client expectations.

ResponsibilitiesTechnical drafting and documentation

Prepare and revise engineering drawings, layouts and details using CAD software.

Interpret engineers' briefs, sketches, previous designs, markups and technical specifications to develop complete drawing sets.

Maintain up-to-date drawing registers and documentation logs for each project.

Ensure all drawings comply with relevant project standards, templates and industry codes.

Support the compilation of drawing packs for submissions, tenders and approvals.

Coordination and collaboration

Liaise with engineers and team leads to clarify priorities, design requirements and resolve queries and inconsistencies.

Coordinate with document controllers to ensure proper version control and drawing traceability.

Participate in design reviews and incorporate markups and feedback efficiently.

Provide support and informal guidance to junior draftsmen as needed, contributing to their learning and development.

Quality and delivery

Conduct self-checks and peer reviews to ensure drawing accuracy and consistency.

Ensure deadlines are met for drawing deliverables across multiple active projects.

Flag design issues or documentation gaps early to reduce rework and delays.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting standards and processes.

Qualifications and experience

Education requirement:

A recognised certificate or diploma in mechanical, electrical or civil drafting, or a related technical field. MDDOP preferred.

Experience requirement:

Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a drafting role within an engineering, mining or infrastructure consulting environment.

Key skills and competencies

Proficient in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D or similar.

Experience in other packages will be accepted, yet the applicant will be required to undertake self study of the above packages at their own time to transition. Functional competency should be gained within 1 month from starting the position at the very least and full competency in two months.

Solid understanding of technical drawing standards, construction detailing and layouts.

Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and file organisation.

Able to manage multiple drawing packages simultaneously across active projects.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Willing to assist and guide junior team members.
