DIVISIONAL MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY:
The Divisional Manager oversees efficient fleet utilisation, driver performance, and adherence to regulatory standards, while ensuring seamless coordination between operations, maintenance, and client service teams. This role is critical in optimising transport efficiency, maintaining service excellence, and driving continuous improvement across all logistics operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (not limited to)
Management and Planning:

  • Plan, manage and monitor all container transport operations across South Africa in line with customer expectations/requirements.
  • Oversee daily depot operations including despatch, local and long-distance fleet scheduling and load planning to meet customer requirements
Process Management:
  • Manage and optimise fleet productivity to ensure on-time delivery and collection, with minimum loss in kilometres and / or minimal en-route lay over.
Fleet Performance:
  • Monitor fleet performance fuel efficiency through effective route planning and monitoring systems.
  • Manage and control driver performance, fuel consumption, discipline and training in line with Company standards and expectations.
  • Ensure the fleet and drivers comply with road transport, safety and environmental regulations.
Vehicle Maintenance:
  • Manage and monitor with the technical department on the scheduling of maintenance on vehicles.
Financial & Performance Management:
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts and performance reports.
  • Achieve budget targets and objectives as set by Management.
  • Drive cost control initiatives and identify opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Prepare and generate management reports.
Clients:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure consistent delivery performance and provide real-time updates to clients by generating operational reports.
  • Oversee liaison between operations, port authorities and customers to ensure efficient communication and service delivery.
Employee Management & Leadership:
  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performance operations team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement.
  • Support succession planning and employee development initiatives within the Division
  • Manage employees effectively in line with Company standards, policies and code of conduct.
Safety:
  • Ensure compliance in accordance with Company SOP's, and Health and Safety Standards as per legislation.
REQUIREMENTS: * Education: Grade 12 with tertiary qualification in Transport / Logistics Management
  • Experience: At least 5 years' experience in the Road Freight and Logistics Industry especially in container logistics and fleet control. Strategic and analytical thinking with strong problem-solving skills. Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
  • Track Record: Proven track record in fleet control, routing, operations planning and working on Portnet Systems including Navis booking system
  • Leadership: Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Systems: Proficient in transport management systems (TMS), tracking systems and basic reporting tools i.e. Excel, Outlook.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership, communication and people management skills.
