Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To oversee and optimize the distribution and fleet operations for the Johannesburg branch. This includes managing route planning and execution, fleet maintenance, driver management and ensuring timely dispatch of customer orders. The role also involves implementing best practices, maintaining compliance with policies and procedures and driving efficiency improvements across logistics operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fleet & Driver Management:

Implement and enforce driver and fleet policies and procedures. Oversee fleet maintenance to ensure vehicle availability and reliability. Run the Driver Internship Program to upskill and develop drivers. Manage relationships with third-party line haul service providers and courier services nationally. Control Chep pallet accounts and ensure accountability. Ensure all Route Sheets are completed daily by the Dispatch Administrator. Issue invoices and route sheets to Exim employees for truck loading. Responsible for and accountable for the Cash Up Standard Operating Procedure. Conduct Daily Dispatch Pallet Reconciliation and sign-off, including export customer pallets.
Warehouse & Distribution Oversight:

Ensure interbranch requisitions are dispatched on time. Oversee the daily backorder report for Cape Town, ensuring warehouse readiness for next-day trips. Manage the customer collections cage, ensuring stock integrity and efficient customer service
Returns & Compliance:

Implement and track compliance with Dispatch and logistics policies.
KPI Management & Reporting:

Compile and report on current KPIs, providing actionable insights for continuous improvement. Propose and implement industry best practice KPIs for logistics and distribution. Ensure correct truck loading for accurate stock distribution. Conduct and document driver training and inductions. Liaise with labour broker service providers to manage workforce efficiency. Implement a data-driven approach to logistics decision-making
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:

Ensure compliance with food safety regulations by signing off the Goods Dispatch Sheet and Vehicle Checklist for drivers daily. Scrutinize & sign off Daily Equipment Cleaning Checklist and cleaning checklists for dispatch cleaners. Execute site lock-up procedures as per the lockup schedule provided by the Logistics Manager. Drive 5S principles in relevant dispatch areas.
Additional Responsibilities:

Develop sustainability strategies for fleet management, including fuel efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, and alternative energy options. Implement real-time logistics tracking for enhanced operational control. Introduce benchmarking analysis to compare logistics efficiency against industry standards. Strengthen supplier relationships for third-party logistics providers to ensure competitive pricing and service levels.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience) Minimum 5-8 years in distribution, warehousing, or logistics management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role Experience in FMCG, manufacturing, or retail distribution preferred Valid driver's license
