Job Description

The Discipline Lead: Geometrics is responsible for leading their geometrics engineering discipline within the Transport and Infrastructure sector. This individual provides leadership in people, projects, clients, and business performance, ensuring excellence in delivery while supporting growth and innovation across related disciplines such as Highways, Transport Planning, ITS, and Rail.
The ideal candidate is a technical expert and a strategic thinker -- someone who can balance engineering quality, client satisfaction, and commercial success.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and guide the geometrics design team to deliver high-quality engineering output.
  • Provide professional oversight and ensure technical excellence within all projects.
  • Manage and support Project Managers on delegated projects.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Project Delivery & Technical Excellence:
  • Manage and review geometric designs, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and specifications.
  • Maintain high technical standards in geometric modeling, roads earthworks, and drainage system design.
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, and quality control processes.
  • Support risk management and contract negotiation activities.
  • Business Development & Strategy:
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the transport infrastructure market.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and growth of the geometrics discipline.
  • Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Support marketing, proposals, and tenders with technical input and leadership.
  • Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (SHEQ):
  • Model exemplary safety and quality behaviour, promoting a "zero harm" culture.
  • Contribute to the identification and mitigation of SHEQ risks.
  • Ensure compliance with company and industry health and safety policies.
Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):
  • Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education: BEng/BScEng or BTech in Civil Engineering.
  • Registration: Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng (mandatory).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in geometric and road design.
  • SANRAL Design Specialist (DS) certification or eligibility.
  • Software Proficiency: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, and OpenTrack.
  • Knowledge:
  • Geometric design and modelling.
  • Roads earthworks, drainage, and pavement design.
  • COTO standard specifications.
  • Contract management under FIDIC and GCC.
  • Public sector procurement and construction regulations.
  • Key Competencies:
  • Proven leadership experience in managing road design teams.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills in geometrics design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strategic business insight and client relationship management.
  • Ability to balance technical quality, commercial performance, and team well-being.
