Job Description

The main purpose of the role:
The Director of Construction will be responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of all construction activities related to the hydrogen plant and associated infrastructure at Saldanha and other local sites. This includes oversight of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation works, with a strong focus on safety, quality, timeline, budget, and environmental compliance. Leading a multidisciplinary construction team made up of Developer teams, EPC(M) and contractors, and requires close coordination with engineering, procurement, project controls, regulatory, and stakeholder engagement functions for the project. This is a senior leadership role requiring proven experience in large-scale industrial or energy infrastructure projects.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline). Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in large-scale industrial or energy infrastructure construction.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role (Construction Director / Head of Construction / Project Manager).
  • Proven experience delivering complex greenfield projects (hydrogen, petrochemical, LNG, mining, or renewable energy).
  • Strong understanding of EPC/EPCM contracts and construction law, as well as the practical implementation of these.
  • Experience working in South Africa or similar regulatory environments is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Deep understanding of construction methodologies and risk management.
  • Strong commercial and contractual acumen.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and environmental sustainability
  • Familiarity with hydrogen or renewable energy technologies.
  • Experience managing coastal infrastructure or port-adjacent facilities.
  • Knowledge of South African construction regulations and permitting processes, including building, heavy electrical, and pressure equipment.
