NACOSA (Networking HIV, AIDS Community of Southern Africa) is a leading non-profit organisation working in communities across South Africa. It focuses on building stronger, more equal, healthy and safe communities to respond effectively to HIV, AIDS, TB, gender-based violence (GBV) and other related public health and social challenges. Over the next two and a half years, NACOSA will be implementing the biggest youth health programme in the country.
The duties and responsibilities of the Digital Information & Advocacy Specialist will include, but not limited to:
Develop and execute digital information dissemination and advocacy strategies.
Build and manage online communities and digital channels, fostering engagement, feedback, and meaningful conversations.
Scope and manage programme integration with existing digital channels (e.g., mobile apps, online platforms, health services) to reach young people effectively.
Conduct social listening and analytics to inform targeting, optimize paid-for social media campaigns, and evaluate the effectiveness of information dissemination and communication strategies.
Capture and share key learnings and outcomes from community, beneficiary, network, and programme engagements.
Develop new digital advocacy and programme content, tools, and updates to digital health messaging.
Disseminate programme data and learning through digital channels, including interactive reports, emailers, webinars, podcasts, and social media
Required qualifications, skills and experience
Degree or diploma in Communications, Digital Media, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
Proven experience in digital advocacy, information dissemination, and community engagement.
Demonstrable experience in digital multi-media content creation, analytics, social listening, and audience segmentation.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex programme data or health information into engaging digital content.
Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and with external partners.
Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital analytics, and online community management.
Experience in integrating digital tools with programme implementation is an advantage.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Personal Competencies
Strong understanding of digital communication trends, social media algorithms, and user engagement strategies.
Proficiency with content creation, publishing, scheduling and analytics tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Wordpress)
Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
Strong project management and coordination abilities.
Knowledge of digital health communication and online safety best practices.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in more than one South African language will be a distinct advantage.
