Job Description

FGW Generators in Cape Town is looking to employ a Diesel Technician/Mechanic. The successful candidate will be required to assist the service and workshop team by providing an efficient technical and mechanical service, as well as electrical services. Reporting: This position reports to the Service Manager. Job Objectives:

• Perform maintenance services on diesel generators as main duty.
• Diagnosis and fault finding, mechanical and electrical.
• Prepare (PDI) generators for delivery.
• Assist with generator set breakdowns and any other general duties.
• Test run generators to gauge performance.
• Maintaining detailed records of the services/callouts.
• Available for after hours and/or standby time.
• Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
• Adhering to warranty procedures.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Providing customers with excellent service:

• Ensuring that work is carried out to FGW generators standard and as arranged / agreed with customers.
• Provide constant customer feedback.
• Relay customer queries to the Service management team.

To be financially profitable:

• Conduct services and call outs in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Minimise wastage.
• Adhere to stock control.

Qualification & Job Experience:

• Code 8 Drivers licence.
• Applicants must have completed a trade test or tertiary qualification for Diesel Mechanic/Electro-mechanical.
• Have at least +5 years post qualification experience.
• Knowledge and field experience of various engine brand, i.e., Scania, Perkins, Mitsubishi etc
• Knowledge and field experience with electrical harnesses and control equipment.
• Be able to communicate respectfully with all customers and employees.
• Be a team player and have excellent supervisory skills.
