DevOps Engineer (Senior)
Contract Duration: 01 August 2025 - 31 December 2027
Location: Remote / On-site hybrid (South Africa)

Team: Operations Management - IT Observability
Nationality: South African citizens/residents preferred; valid work permits considered.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join a high-performance team focused on delivering tailored IT Observability solutions using cutting-edge open-source technologies like Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, and Nagios. If you have a strong infrastructure background, DevOps mindset, and advanced scripting and monitoring experience--this opportunity is for you.
Key Responsibilities

• Customize the OpenTelemetry framework for enterprise observability.
• Enhance and support observability stacks including Grafana, Prometheus, and Nagios.
• Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for observability solutions.
• Gather monitoring requirements from IT departments and translate them into user stories.
• Design and develop monitoring plugins and dashboards with external providers.
• Consult internal users on observability tool usage and optimization.
• Install and configure dashboards and queries in Grafana and Prometheus.
• Manage solution documentation: operations manuals, security documentation, and test plans.
• Collaborate in an Agile team environment and take ownership of deliverables.

Minimum Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with IT Observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios)
• 6+ months hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry
• DevOps practices and tools: GitHub, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Nexus, GitHub Actions
• Proficient with Shell, Python, Perl, and either Java or .NET
• Strong command of Linux and Windows OS, networking, databases, web and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google)
• Fluent in English (spoken and business writing)
• ITIL knowledge and practical exposure

Advantageous Skills

• Understanding of on-prem/cloud architecture concepts
• Familiarity with Agile methodology
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement across all levels
• Interpersonal and intercultural collaboration
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Self-driven, proactive, and open to learning
