Social Places is a leading cloud-based SaaS platform designed to empower multi-location brands (think major retailers, hospitality groups, etc.). Our platform is the engine behind their local presence, managing everything from Google Business and Apple Maps listings, reputation, and social content, to providing local SEO-optimised web pages for every store, branch, or location.
We deliver a fully managed, secure, and scalable ecosystem with AI deeply integrated to automate and enhance key workflows - especially around review moderation, sentiment analysis, local SEO, and operational alerts. Hosted entirely within AWS data centres in Ireland (eu-west-1), we operate a strict multi-tenant architecture with enterprise-grade security aligned with ISO 27001, maintaining a 99.99% uptime commitment.
We are a lean, agile, and technically excellent team. If you thrive on building, securing, and scaling high-availability systems with a focus on automation, we want to talk to you.
We are looking for a skilled and proactive DevOps Engineer to join our senior engineering team and report directly to the CTO and Technical Lead. You will be a crucial custodian of our infrastructure, driving security, reliability, cost management, and the continuous improvement of our deployment pipeline.
You'll operate within a dynamic Agile environment with one-week sprints and bi-weekly retrospectives, where your technical expertise and operational insight will directly impact our business KPIs and OKRs.
What you will be doing:
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & AWS Management:
Act as a key contributor to our collective IaC efforts, managing and scaling our entire AWS environment (eu-west-1). This includes services like Amazon RDS (MySQL), Amazon S3, Amazon ElastiCache (Redis), and ensuring all configurations are secure, cost-optimised, and compliant. You will drive adherence to the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Cost Management & Optimisation (FinOps):
Proactively monitor and implement strategies to ensure efficient use of resources across all technology layers. This includes optimising AWS resources and tracking expenditure for other essential services such as Google Cloud Console, various AI tools (e.g., OpenAI integrations), 3rd party platforms (such as X (Twitter), TripADvisor, etc. API Usage), and other key third-party platforms, balancing performance requirements with cost effectiveness.
Security, Compliance & Assurance:
Implement, monitor, and enforce granular security controls across all systems. This is a core focus and includes managing AWS IAM, ensuring least privilege access, overseeing automated vulnerability scanning and regular penetration testing remediation. You will assist with ensuring alignment with our ISO 27001 standards and policies.
Continuous Improvement & Automation:
Drive the automation of deployment, testing, and operational processes. You will refine our existing processes and expand them to improve efficiency, speed, and reliability.
Monitoring & Reliability:
Implement and maintain real-time monitoring and alerting solutions (leveraging AWS CloudWatch and other tools) to ensure our 99.99% uptime commitment is met, and quickly detect and respond to any anomalies or potential malicious activities.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
Create and maintain high-quality system and application documentation, including comprehensive READMEs and ensuring GitHub Workflows are clearly documented and up-to-date. You will also participate in formal handovers and retrospectives to capture and apply lessons learned.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the senior engineers in daily standups and throughout the sprint cycle, providing expertise on infrastructure architecture, security, and deployment best practices.
What you will bring:
Essential Qualifications:
Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, or a similar role focused on cloud infrastructure.
Expert-level knowledge of AWS services, specifically in a high-availability, production environment. Experience must include key components like IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and security services such as KMS, GuardDuty, and Shield.
Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
Strong understanding of network security concepts, including firewalls, load balancing, network segmentation, and TLS 1.3.
Experience implementing and managing real-time monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for critical applications.
Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (Git).
Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, senior team environment.
Bonus Points for Experience with:
Working within an ISO 27001-aligned or other highly regulated environment.
Knowledge of or experience with the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
Containerisation and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Managing multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
Scripting languages for automation (e.g., Python, Bash).
