Job Description


The duties of a Deputy Responsible Pharmacist includes:

Ensuring legal compliance: The Responsible Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring that the pharmacy operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards. This includes adhering to pharmaceutical legislation, licensing requirements, and maintaining accurate records.

Oversight of pharmacy operations: The Responsible Pharmacist oversees the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy. This includes managing staff, ensuring proper storage and handling of medications, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.

Dispensing medications: The Responsible Pharmacist ensures the accurate and safe dispensing of medications to patients. They are responsible for verifying prescriptions, counseling patients on proper medication use, and addressing any concerns or questions patients may have.

Quality assurance: The Responsible Pharmacist is responsible for implementing quality assurance programs to ensure that medications are of high quality, safe, and effective. This may involve monitoring drug recalls, conducting regular inspections, and implementing processes to minimize medication errors.

Patient safety: The Responsible Pharmacist plays a crucial role in promoting patient safety. They are responsible for identifying and preventing medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and drug interactions. They may provide guidance to other healthcare professionals and patients on medication safety.

Continuing professional development: The Responsible Pharmacist is expected to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in pharmaceutical practice. This includes participating in continuing education programs, attending relevant conferences or workshops, and staying informed about new drugs and treatment guidelines.

Collaboration with healthcare professionals: The Responsible Pharmacist collaborates with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors and nurses, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care. They may provide medication-related advice, participate in multidisciplinary meetings, and contribute to the development of treatment plans.

Record-keeping and documentation: The Responsible Pharmacist maintains accurate records of medications dispensed, inventory management, and any relevant patient interactions. This documentation is important for legal and regulatory purposes and for maintaining patient confidentiality.

Handling controlled substances: If the pharmacy deals with controlled substances, the Responsible Pharmacist ensures compliance with strict regulations governing the storage, dispensing, and record-keeping of these medications.

Adverse event reporting: The Responsible Pharmacist is responsible for reporting any adverse drug reactions or other medication-related incidents to the appropriate regulatory authorities as required by law.

Must haves :

Matric

South African Degree in BPharm

3 years experience as a pharmacist

Ideally from a high volume warehouse or distribution centre

Registration with SAPC

Drivers License

This role requires a person who can work shifts if the need arises. This role also needs a person who can handle a stress filled day and who thrives on challenges.
