Job Description

NACOSA is seeking a committed and experienced Deputy Grant Manager to support the overall management and coordination of NACOSA's Global Fund grant, ensuring effective implementation, compliance with donor requirements, and delivery of high-quality outcomes. Working closely with the Grant Manager, the Deputy will oversee implementing partners, manage programme performance, and provide technical and administrative leadership to strengthen the impact of interventions targeting adolescents and young people.


The duties and responsibilities of Deputy Grant Manager

will include, but not be limited to:




Grant & Programme Management




Support the Grant Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing the implementation of the Adolescent and Young People Programme. Ensure that programme activities align with donor priorities, national policies, and strategic objectives. Contribute to grant budgeting, forecasting, expenditure monitoring, and financial reporting. Monitor programme performance, targets, and outputs against grant deliverables and timelines.

Networking, Advocacy & Capacity Building




Provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship to Implementing Partners to strengthen programme delivery. Conduct site visits and routine performance monitoring to ensure compliance, quality, and accountability. Facilitate capacity-building workshops and learning exchanges for partners. Represent NACOSA at meetings.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting




Work with the M&E team to ensure accurate, timely, and quality data collection and reporting. Review and consolidate reports from Implementing Partners and contribute to donor reports. Use data to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities to improve programme outcomes.

Compliance & Risk Management




Ensure compliance with donor contractual obligations, NACOSA policies, and regulatory frameworks. Identify risks (programmatic, financial, reputational) and propose mitigation strategies. Ensure safeguarding and ethical standards are upheld across all programme interventions.


Required qualifications, skills, and experience


A relevant degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Development Studies or related field. Master's degree preferred. At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a technical advisory role for large-scale community-based health programmes for donor-funded activities, with a focus on HIV prevention. 5 years of demonstrated experience in grant management, including financial and compliance oversight. Strong knowledge of health, HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health - within the relevant South African Frameworks relevant to Adolescents and Young People, key populations, gender-based violence, and human rights. Demonstrated experience of M&E principles, M&E systems and data driven programme management. Demonstrated experience in procurement and contracting processes. Proven ability to build partnerships with civil society, donors, and government stakeholders. Excellent project management, financial oversight, and reporting skills. Relevant working experience in the NGO sector. Willingness to travel nationally as required.
