Job Description

Responsibilities:
o

Manage crime prevention and combatting, events, and ensure response to all crime and incidents on Campus through Crime Prevention and Response Team (CPRT) and contracted external security providers when necessary


o Ensure crime prevention and combating operations which are medium to high risk are conducted as planned and respond to all crime incidents occurring on campus


o Monitor timely response to all reported incidents


o Ensure crime awareness campaigns in hotspot areas are conducted


o Ensure that all planned and unplanned events are attended to


o Ensure all relevant events role players are part of the events planning


o Co-chairing events management committee sitting. To liaise with POS, SAPS and JMPD in the event of protest action


o Manage external perimeter security through briefing and deployment of personnel together with armed response according to crime and risk analysis


o Ensuring adequate deployment of officers on sites and taking responsibility for all the equipment deployed


o Ensure the smooth running of the Joint operational Centre (JOC), to ensure that there is 24- hour deployment of operators


o Ensure equipment, cameras, monitors and panic buttons are functional


o Supervise and ensure constant monitoring of activity using CCTV System to detect/intercept persons engaged in criminal activity and ensure effective follow-up


o Ensure that all JOC Officers are adequately trained


Requirements:
o

Matric and tertiary degree in security management or equivalent (NQF 7) in security management.


o PSIRA Grade A / be able to register with PSIRA within three months of employment


o Crowd Management Course


o Armed Response Course / Tactical Training Course


o Preferably 10 years in a security related environment, with at least 5 years in management position with evidence of progressive responsibilities, and preferably within an educational environment


o Must be available 24/7


o Ability to work weekends and evenings as and when necessary


o The candidate must be able to pass background check


o Physical demands are in excess of those for deskbound work, and therefore the incumbent would need to be physically fit


o Ability to interpret and apply applicable legislation, rules and regulations


o Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations


o Ability to enforce legislation and policies tactfully and with respect for the rights of others


o Ability to communicate effectively, analyse data, prepare records and reports


o Ability to work well with diverse groups and provide effective leadership


o Understanding of cultural diversity


o Experience in the higher education sector is preferred


o Membership of SASA and COMPROSA would be advantageous
