IMPORTANT NOTICE

Our client is seeking to employ someone with a logistics background, but more importantly, someone who has been involved with shipping or at least possesses a good understanding of what it entails. We are not looking for someone from a shipping company. Your fleet should have experience delivering to containers, as there is a significant difference between a fleet delivering to a warehouse and delivering to containers where the ship is not waiting on you. (Your fleet will be responsible for delivering to warehouses as well as to containers.) Additionally, we will not consider logistics, transport, or fleet managers for the role. It is important that you have been responsible for an entire company, as we are searching for general management experience, including the responsibility of a branch or division, managing budgets, assessing profitability, etc.

Role Purpose

Accountable for the groups transport function including own fleet and subcontractor management with the purpose of maximising profit while maintaining exceptional service levels.

Qualifications and experience:

• Degree - Relevant post matric qualification in logistics/transport
• + 10 years experience managing all aspects of a transport business
• Container Transport industry experience essential (or at least an understanding of logistics around shipping)
• Own fleet & Contracting of subcontractors
• Union Negotiations
• Financial planning and Budgeting
• Bargaining Council Negotiations
• Health & Safety
• Computer skills: Excel, Navision, Pastel,

• Overall accountability for ensuring own truck profit & utilisation is maximised
• Provide input for the total transport function budget. Manage and deliver according to the approved budget maximising profit by managing Income & Expenses
• Overall responsibility for the smooth running of all transport services
• Ensure the highest possible level of systems and app usage, data integrity and timeous updating in line with set procedures
• Overall accountability for the contracting and managing of subcontractors. Ensuring all subcontractors maintain high service levels at all times
• Ensure enough capacity are available through subcontractors and own trucks at competitive market related rates
• Set transport rates and compile quotes for own trucks. Ensure the compilation, maintenance and updating of rates sheet for all regular routes
• Ensure enough plug-in capacity at competitive rates are available in all areas
