Prepare treatment rooms before each patient appointment
Assist dentists during procedures (four-handed dentistry)
Ensure correct instruments and materials are available during treatments
Anticipate clinician needs to support efficient patient flow
Support infection control and cross-contamination prevention at all times
Infection Control & Compliance
Sterilise instruments according to HPCSA and practice protocols
Maintain clean and hygienic clinical areas
Adhere strictly to infection control standards
Assist with stock rotation and expiry date monitoring
Patient Care & Experience
Welcome and reassure patients before and during procedures
Prepare patients for treatment
Provide post-operative care instructions as directed by the dentist
Maintain patient dignity, comfort, and confidentiality at all times
Career progression as the practice expands
Clinical Administration
Assist with accurate clinical notes and record-keeping
Prepare materials for procedures and treatments
Support digital workflows (X-rays, intraoral photos, scans where applicable)
Liaise with Front of House where required to support patient flow
Stock & Equipment
Monitor clinical stock levels and report shortages
Assist with ordering and unpacking of clinical supplies
Ensure dental equipment is cleaned, maintained, and ready for use
Report faulty equipment promptly
Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with dentists, hygienists, and front-of-house staff
Support smooth handovers between appointments
Assist with training of junior or relief assistants when required
Maintain a positive and professional team culture
Minimum Requirements
Qualification or certification as a Dental Assistant
Previous experience in a dental practice (advantageous)
Strong understanding of infection control protocols
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
Reliable, punctual, and well-presented
