Location of position: Mortimer Smelter







-Oversee and co-ordinate all plant logistical activities within the section

Plant availability



Plan throughput through liaison with plant manager/production superintendent, shift leaders and engineering teams Continuously liaise with the plant manager/production superintendent on the sections plant operation and maintenance activities Act as liaison with maintenance on the planning of shutdowns Ensure that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by shift leaders and their teams Liaise with Senior Metallurgist for technical support requirements Monitor plant performance and advise on the settings of machinery to optimise performance Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards Oversees during breakdowns, emergencies or poor plant performance to co-ordinate support from other disciplines Communicate plant defects to the engineering department Co-ordinates the availability of equipment/physical resources Ensure that materials and equipment are available for the shifts requirements

Good employee relations



People management



Allocate work schedules and set priorities Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with internal and external service provider Ensure that the quality of the plant service is monitored and maintained to client standards Ensure that employees have clear work directions and plans Hold disciplinary and grievance inquiries for his shift, as well as cases of a more serious nature from other shift Identify potential conflict situations and minimise the implications Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Industrial Relations Fairly manage cultural diversity Ensure that work is fairly allocated Co-ordinate employee leave schedules Co-ordinate employee's day off rests, overtime worked, absenteeism, etc Identify ideas to increase motivation and productivity Encourage co-operation and team work between maintenance and production personnel Communicate effectively with production superintendent/manager

Recruitment and selection



Approve/draw up advertisements when positions become vacant Interview potential new recruits for selection Ensure that the correct employees are selected into the plant and that they meet the minimum role requirements Induct new recruits on the job

Employee development



Conducting performance reviews Develop yearly HR performance standards and efficiencies to which all programmes need to be aligned Support the induction of employees -identify ideas to increase motivation Training needs matrix completed, develop and implement a training matrix for all employees Mentorship Coaching and development of shift leaders Succession planning

Effective administration of necessary systems



Ensure compilation of accurate daily reports Ensure that the required works instructions are available to employees Implement and maintain applicable safety regulations, The MH&S act, codes of practise and standards Conduct required meetings, including safety Establish procedures for abnormal work requirements which fall outside of standard procedures Ensure that accurate labour records including overtime worked are maintained Control shift rosters, sickness implications, training and leave schedules to ensure the section is adequately resourced Prepare ad-hoc reports for management or other information customers Completion of audit administration Ensure that engineering administration requirements are complied with Ensure that technical data is accurate

Implementation and control of safety standards



Enforce and adhere to SHEQ standards Contribute to Operational Unit safety standards Participate in SHEQ meetings, and provide guidance to employees on any SHEQ issue which may require their attention Participate in safety investigations Participate in risk assessments Ensure that employees work in a safe environment Maintain and comply to the SHEQ management systems Maintain communication structures within the section Enforce protections services procedures and standards

Support the overall operational management of the Operational unit



Contribute the business unit's overall planning process Identify opportunities to improve operations Participation in improvement projects Support efforts to overcome operational problems Identify risks and threats to the process proactively Recommend issues that can improve plant performance

This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to the Plant Production Manager





Qualifications

-Grade 12 (Math's & Science) or NQF Level 5 Certificate relevant to metallurgy.

Experience



Experience with five years as a Shift Leader Passed relevant training In-depth knowledge and understanding of production process - will be an advantage

Knowledge and Skills



Valid driving licence code 08 Intermediate computer literacy English literate Good decision-making skills
