About the Role

Matshomo Group (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced

Database Administrator (DBA)

to support a client project. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, and optimisation of Microsoft SQL Server databases (including Azure SQL). This role requires both strategic and operational expertise, ensuring database integrity, security, availability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases (2000-2025, including Azure SQL). Administer and troubleshoot

SQL Server Clusters

and

Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)

in high availability environments. Manage database security, integrity, access, and backups. Monitor and optimise system and query performance; resolve performance bottlenecks. Implement and maintain replication technologies (merge, peer-to-peer, transactional replication). Support

SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS

components. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, proposals, and performance reports. Ensure compliance with change management and security best practices. Provide architectural guidance, scalability assessments, and strategic planning support. Engage confidently with clients and stakeholders, providing expert advice and solutions.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in

Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

. Minimum

5 years' hands-on experience

as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA. Strong expertise in SQL Server 2012-2025 and Azure SQL.

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate

.

MCSA: SQL Server

(or equivalent, even if legacy). Proven experience with SQL Server Clusters, FCI, high availability environments, and enterprise deployments. Proficiency in scripting, automation, database design, backup/recovery strategies, and performance tuning. Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and storage configurations.

Preferred/Added Advantage

Certifications such as

Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CompTIA Security+, ITIL

. Experience in presenting technical solutions and engaging with both technical and business stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to work under pressure.

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Job Type: Part-time

Pay: R350,00 - R1500,00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 60 per week
