Job Summary
A growing B2B data marketplace platform is looking for a Data Product Manager to drive execution, quality, and optimization of data products that connect data sellers with enterprise buyers. This role focuses on managing the end-to-end lifecycle of data products, ensuring data integrity, monetization success, and seamless technical delivery.
You'll work within established product frameworks and collaborate closely with data engineering, data science, and product squads. This position is ideal for someone with strong technical data foundations who is ready to grow into a more senior product leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Data Product Strategy & Execution

• Execute the data product roadmap and contribute to strategy development.
• Manage assigned data product categories or seller portfolios.
• Perform technical evaluations of seller data assets (data quality, schemas, integration feasibility).
• Optimize product performance using analytics, experiments, and statistical methods.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to deliver solutions.

Discovery & Opportunity Development

• Run data discovery sessions with potential data sellers using structured frameworks.
• Identify monetization opportunities aligned with buyer needs.
• Contribute to use-case ideation across industries and buyer types.
• Support business cases with value propositions and revenue insights.

Product Development & Delivery

• Create detailed technical requirements for data pipelines, APIs, and integrations.
• Coordinate cross-functional delivery efforts.
• Build rapid prototypes to validate demand and feasibility.
• Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications.
• Operate within agile processes and sprint cycles.

Stakeholder & Client Management

• Manage relationships with data sellers in your portfolio.
• Liaise with growth and platform teams on opportunities and delivery.
• Present data solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Escalate complex issues to product leadership as needed.

Data Governance & Quality

• Ensure all products meet data security, privacy, and regulatory standards.
• Implement monitoring, validation, and governance frameworks.
• Maintain documentation and uphold quality standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills
Product Management Foundation

• 3-5 years in data-focused roles (engineering, science, BI, or data product management).
• 4-6 years product management experience OR strong product delivery capability in data environments.
• Experience working with cross-functional technical teams.
• Ability to articulate value through business and user lenses.
• Exposure to B2B software or enterprise data ecosystems.

Technical & Data Expertise

• Strong SQL skills and comfort with data analysis.
• Understanding of data pipelines, data quality, and integration patterns.
• Basic API design and data delivery mechanism knowledge.
• Awareness of ML and statistical modelling use cases.
• Understanding of governance and privacy (GDPR, POPIA).
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse preferred).
• Power BI or similar visualization tools (highly desirable).

Product & Business Skills

• Experience with rapid prototyping and lean product methods.
• Strong communication skills for business and technical audiences.
• Understanding of data monetization and pricing models.
• Strong analytical and decision-making ability.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
• Growth mindset and self-driven learner.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.

Preferred / Advantageous

• Python or Spark experience.
• Product management experience in B2B SaaS or data platforms.
• Solutions architecture background or interest.
• Marketplace or platform business model exposure.
• Experience in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare).
• Knowledge of data contracts, SLAs, enterprise data agreements.
• Azure certifications (or willingness to obtain).
• Advanced degree in a related field.
