: Cost Accountant - Organic Zone

Purpose of the Role
The Cost Accountant is responsible for monitoring, analysing, and reporting on all production and retail cost elements to ensure accurate pricing, profitability, and effective cost control across the business. The role supports management in decision-making through data-driven cost insights and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
1. 1. Costing and Analysis
Develop and maintain cost accounting systems for production and retail operations.
Calculate product costs for fresh produce, packaged foods, and grocery items.
Analyse variances between actual and standard costs and identify root causes.
Track and evaluate wastage, shrinkage, and yield in production and retail areas.
Review supplier costs and assist in price setting to ensure target margins.
2. 2. Inventory and Stock Control
Maintain accurate inventory valuation across production and retail stores.
Perform stock reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
Implement cost control procedures for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
3. 3. Budgeting and Reporting
Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and cost planning.
Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports for management, highlighting key trends.
Support financial management with data for profitability analysis by product category.
4. 4. Systems and Compliance
Ensure data integrity across the point-of-sale, production, and accounting systems.
Support the integration of costing modules into accounting or ERP systems.
5. Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement efficiency improvements in production and procurement.
Collaborate with production and retail managers to reduce costs and improve margins.
Provide training and support to staff on cost awareness and control practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree/3-year diploma in Accounting, Cost Management, or Finance.
Minimum 3-5 years' experience in cost accounting in the retail industry and possibly in food production
Proficient in Excel and Arch System knowledge is preferable
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with inventory control and management reporting.
