Job Summary My client is currently in search of a dynamic and proficient Cost Accountant to join their finance team. As a Cost Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the precision and effectiveness of their cost accounting procedures, driving ongoing enhancements, and providing vital support for strategic decision-making within the company.

This position is based in Isando, Johannesburg East.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish, upload, and oversee standard costs utilizing a fully absorbed, activity-based model in collaboration with procurement and operations.
  • Ensure the precise and punctual loading of new and revised bill of materials.
  • Deliver weekly reports on factory performance for the current month, outlining notable insights and areas for enhancement.
  • Review and pursue resolution for open orders and long-standing orders to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Execute month-end accruals, cut-off transactions, re-allocations, and account validations for monthly period closure.
  • Proactively address variances on a daily basis, collaborating with the cost analyst and escalating issues to site management as necessary.
  • Conduct monthly reporting and validation of material variances, under and over-recoveries, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support department heads in cost control, budgeting, and forecasting, adapting as required.
  • Ensure complete transparency regarding costs and financial implications on the organization for significant or strategic decisions concerning the factory or area of responsibility.
  • Investigate and analyze capital and operating expenditures, ensuring expected returns are realized.
  • Maintain robust internal controls, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, and provide support during audits and self-assessments.
  • Identify and champion cost improvement opportunities, actively contributing to improvement projects and initiatives, and evaluating proposed savings.
  • Reconcile and validate inventory, fixed assets, and associated balance sheet accounts.
  • Participate in stock takes and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, including assisting with inventory write-offs authorization.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and assistance to the cost analyst, ensuring timely delivery of outputs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Completed CIMA professional designation (non-negotiable)
  • Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough comprehension of cost accounting principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly in cost accounting modules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
