Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

Institutional Advancement is dedicated to increasing awareness, public support and financial contributions to the University through alumni relations, communications, development, and special events.

Fundraising and Donor Relations raises and manages philanthropic donations from corporates and trusts and foundations. We engage donors on academic, research and other institutional priorities important to them. By putting donors at the centre of the process, we foster an environment where excellence in student, staff and community engagement success can be accomplished through greater private funding.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Meeting large income targets - Individual targets are set annually
  • Maintaining excellent stewardship by being the main contact person for donors and ensuring timeous reporting.
  • Identifying new donors and re-activating lapsed donors as well as identifying new income sources for UWC
  • Annually increase the donor base by building strong relationships with new donors
  • Work closely with Faculty staff to identify projects of interest to donors as well as develop appropriate cases for support for fundraising activities
  • Stay informed of fundraising good practice and legislation, ensuring compliance with UWC and other relevant government policies to demonstrate good governance to donor community.
  • Conducting prospect research to identify new potential donors for the university.
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree at an NQF level 7 or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience working within Advancement in the Higher Education sector or 7+ years relevant experience as a senior fundraiser within NGO sector
  • Portfolio of evidence of your ability to raise large donations through your own effort (to be uploaded as supporting document when applying for position)

  • Demonstrate self-confidence, resilience, adaptability, honesty and integrity.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Self-starter who is self-motivated and is target driven
  • Willingness to travel
