The successful incumbent must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Contract Manager on infrastructure or road projects at a value of at least R500 million.
Formal qualifications:
A bachelors degree in engineering (civil or structural), construction management, building studies, quantity surveying or a related field is preferred
High proficiency in Microsoft Projects
Valid driving license code 08
Registration with SACPCMP as PrCM or ECSA as PrEng/PrTechEng
Own transport
Responsibilities: The contract manager will be responsible for commercial and contractual work.Contract specific tasks
Ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract
Conducting risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential contractual risks
Negotiate contract terms with subcontractors and suppliers to optimize project outcome
Overseeing all contract administration activities
Planning
Developing and maintaining a Contract Management Plan to guide project execution
Managing claims for variations, extension of time and additional costs in accordance with contractual requirements
Developing and presenting project proposals
Producing plans and estimating budgets and timescales
Managing construction schedules and budgets
Handling any unexpected costs and planning for unforeseen circumstances
Developing plans regarding the work schedule
Collecting data for forecasting and planning purposes
Client relations and liaison
Discussing, drafting, reviewing and negotiating the terms of business contracts
Liaise with project stakeholders, including clients, consultants and subcontractors to address contractual matters
Handling and managing client expectations
Agreeing on budgets and timescales with various stakeholders
Attending site meetings to monitor progress
Acting as the main point of contact for clients, site and project managers
Provide regular updates on contract performance to project management and other stakeholders
Working with third parties to ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities
Liaising with technical and financial staff, sub-contractors, legal teams and the clients own representatives
Building and maintaining good relationships with clients and suppliers
Liaising with external stakeholders to document all activities
Compiling and making of presentations to clients and suppliers
Quality and regulation compliance
Making sure construction projects meet agreed technical standards
Ensuring that all project documentation, including correspondence, payment claims and reports is accurate and up-to-date
Identifying ways to increase efficiency and improve productivity
Overseeing invoicing at the end of a project
Ensuring that all contracts are accurate and relevant documentation is correct and updated when necessary

Monitoring project progress to ensure alignment with the contract schedule and budget
Staying informed and updated on South African construction laws, regulations and industry standards and trends
Health safety and environmental legislation and regulation compliance
Inherent requirements for the position:
Strong knowledge of South African contract law and construction regulations
Proven experience in claims management, contract negotiation and dispute resolution
Working knowledge and experience with legal documentation
Experience with IT and Mathematics

Knowledge of project management software
Understanding of contractual conditions and relevant industry regulations
Excellent attention to detail
Familiarity with standard contract forms such as FIDIC is a must
