Consumer Activation Associate - Cape Town

What this position is about - Purpose:

In this position, you will be responsible for the implementation and execution of the consumer activation strategy and related tools across consumer activation platforms to ensure trial, awareness and visibility objectives of JTI brands are met to achieve overall business objectives in an unconventional manner. The position requires a passionate individual that is consumer-centric, thrives in a fast-paced environment, is in touch with the latest consumer trends and understands consumer engagement principles.

What will you do - Responsibilities:

  • Events:
Develop relationships with target event organisers and secure partnership events that align with the Brand, Consumer Activation strategy and address the targeted consumer of our brands. Introduce a WOW factor and out-of-the-norm consumer engagement approach within JTI-secured activations in alignment with Consumer Activations Manager. Negotiate the investment, placement and supporting parameters to ensure JTI has a prime position, exclusivity and achieves an efficient return on investment. Work in collaboration with event agencies during set up, event and strike to ensure all brand-related tools have high visibility, are maintained and the event delivers on outlined KPIs
  • Venues:
Target venues with high activation opportunities by identifying key hubs and using segmentation to focus on key strategic venues. Negotiate the listing of all key JTI SKUs, to ensure agreed distribution targets are met. Ensure venues order adequate stock to prevent out-of-stock situations and implement supporting brand visibility tools to gain brand awareness. Drive pricing negotiations to ensure RSP pricing is achieved or relativity with key competitor brands across partnership venues
  • Vending:
Handle VMO relationships within allocated territories regularly to ensure business continuity and optimally communicate in-trade gaps and JTI pricing/rebate changes. Secure distribution, communicate vending planograms & implement point of sale to ensure the best visibility on key brands. Set visibility targets, ranking priority stores and run monthly reporting. Facilitate annual contracts and periodic vending audits
  • Budget Management: -
Optimally distribute allocated budget by manager within individual areas to improve resources, in line with agreed initiatives. Ensure budget efficiencies are met within agreed timelines regarding Cost Estimate submissions and not limited to Invoicing timelines. Monthly tracking of budgets and collection of approvals where required. Close collaboration with Finance and GIP colleagues to ensure that procedures are followed concerning audit necessities and JTI guidelines
  • Reporting:
Consolidate all the feedback across activation platforms timeously. Ensure all results are sent to the Consumer Activation Manager with any insights on trends that are emerging in the marketplace or highlight any opportunities within legislation across but not limited to specified areas of markets. Ensure timeous 3rd party/agency reporting to JTI standards
  • Cross-functional collaboration and 3rd party partnerships:
Work in close collaboration with respective partners within the marketing and sales departments to ensure business alignment on consumer activation activities and collaboration across channels to ensure maximum impact. Area planning and organising of all activities and ensuring available resources (Sellers, Time management, targets, tools, information, budget).

Build and develop in trade relationships with activation agencies/suppliers and third-party partnerships that deliver on the strategic objectives, provide efficiencies and extend JTI's presence across activation platforms

Who are we looking for - Requirements:
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in business, management, marketing, or a related field
  • 3 years of FMCG experience within the Activation / HoReCa channel
  • Excellent command of written, spoken English. Proficient use of computers and software packages
  • You are a phenomenal teammate and communicator
  • Business and commercial foresight, along with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, attention to detail, time management, decision-making, and multitasking abilities
