Division: Taxpayer Engagement Operations- Voluntary Disclosure Unit

About the Position
The Voluntary Disclosure unit situated in Brooklyn, Pretoria has an opportunity for skilled individuals driven by the SARS Strategic Intent and Vision 2024. Our mandate is to ensure optimal compliance with tax legislation. We do this through fostering a culture of Voluntary Compliance and by making it easy for taxpayers and traders to comply with their legal obligations.
Candidates should possess excellent knowledge and interpretation of tax legislation. You should also have a sound knowledge and understanding of the various taxes administered by SARS and the ability to mentor and coach others on technical matters with the purpose of ensuring that SARS is interpreting and applying the legislative framework effectively and accurately. Successful candidates should have an excellent ability to demonstrate concern for customer expectations and needs. Further, successful candidates should possess excellent research, analytical, attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills to facilitate various VDP proceedings and conclude legal agreements.
Job Purpose
To speedily and efficiently grant relief of voluntary disclosures by way of an agreement.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
Relevant Bachelor's Degree/ Advanced Diploma (NQF7) in Law, Accounting or Taxation and 5 years' experience in a tax environment, of which a minimum of 2 years at a technically skilled level.
OR
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 10 years related tax experience in Law, Accounting or Taxation and a minimum 2 years at a technically skilled level.
Minimum Functional Requirements
Skilled technical & academically qualified junior operational management / operational specialists.
Job Outputs:
Process

  • Accumulate information to report on work progress and use for decision making purposes and the identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Apply practical and applied knowledge and act authoritatively on methods, systems, and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Communication of situational interpretation and judgement of work outputs and queries in area of specialisation.
  • Compile Statistical reports applicable to the area of specialisation.
  • Conduct research to investigate the facts and legal implications of cases in order to make recommendations.
  • Correctly apply policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation in the delivery of work outputs.
  • Draw on own knowledge and experience to diagnose symptoms, causes and possible effects in order to solve emerging problems.
  • Execute specialist input through investigation and opportunities within the product process including risk concern.
  • Initiate process and procedural change, implement the change and provide guidelines and support related to new requirements as a result of the change.
  • Plan for value added process improvements, initiatives, and services to deliver on operational strategy and objectives.

  • Ensure that completed work adhere to relevant policies, procedures, governance and legislative requirements and report on deviations & discrepancies
