Job Description

The Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon will deliver expert surgical care for musculoskeletal conditions, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary team in inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring patient-centered care, and advancing surgical techniques. The candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and departmental leadership while adhering to ethical standards and innovation.

Key Responsibilities



Clinical Duties



Diagnose and treat orthopaedic conditions through surgical (e.g., joint replacements, trauma surgery, arthroscopy) and non-surgical methods. Manage pre-operative assessments and post-operative care, including complications. Collaborate with specialists (e.g., physiotherapists, radiologists) for comprehensive care. Ensure informed consent, patient confidentiality, and compliance with safety protocols.

Teaching & Training



Mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical students. Lead workshops, grand rounds, and simulation training. Develop educational materials and curricula.

Research & Development



Conduct clinical trials and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. Present at conferences; explore innovations like robotic-assisted surgery. Secure grants for research initiatives.

Administrative Duties



Maintain accurate EHRs and participate in audits/quality improvement programs. Attend departmental meetings and contribute to policy development. Manage resources and oversee surgical staff.

Professional Development



Pursue CME credits and stay updated on advancements (e.g., minimally invasive techniques). Maintain board certifications and licensure.

Qualifications



Education:

MD/DO; Board Certification in Orthopaedic Surgery

Experience:

Minimum 3 years post-residency; expertise in trauma, joint reconstruction, or spine surgery.

Skills:

Proficiency in advanced surgical technologies (e.g., robotic systems). Strong decision-making under pressure and communication skills. Leadership, teamwork, and ethical judgment.

Working Conditions



Hospital/clinic setting with on-call duties (nights/weekends). Physical demands: Prolonged standing, lifting, and exposure to infectious materials/stressful emergencies.
