Construction Manager (Steel) Kempton Park (POS 23201)

Based: Kempton Park

Package: R 100 000.00 to R 105 000.00 plus car and fuel allowamce

Qualification & Experience:

• Must have a minimum of ten years experience in the steel construction environment preferably with a steelwork contracting company.
• Would be preferable to have an engineering design background with a good understanding of how structural systems work.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Must have the knowledge and skills to liaise closely with and work with the Consulting Engineers, Project Managers, Architects and Main Contractors.
• Must have a good understanding of what things cost in the steel contracting environment and what can and cant be achieved from timing point of view, particularly with respect to the installation of steelwork on the various types of construction sites.
• Must be a practical type of person who enjoys putting things together and come up with innovative ways of how to put the things together.
• Must have a bold approach to all that he does and be confident in his knowledge of how things should be done and in getting them done.
• Must have an excellent work ethic and understand that clock watching does not get results in the construction industry, you do what has to be done no matter how long it takes each day.
• Must have good people management skills and be prepared to do anything that he expects the people he manages to do. Lead by example.
• Must be a good communicator and be prepared to explain carefully and clearly to those he manages exactly what and how things should be done.
• Would be preferable to have a good understanding on the use of cranes, both mobile and tower cranes, what they can and cant do and the safe utilisation of them.
• Must have good computer skills and be rigorous in information management, storage and retrieval.
• Must love what he does day in and day out and be prepared to put up with the rigors of the modern construction industry.
• Must manage erection crews and tasks.
• Must have good knowledge of Health and Safety. We do have a Safety Officer.
• Must be able to prepare and issue erection method statements.
• Will be responsible for placing orders on erectors, for erection related costs and subcontract erectors accounts and corrosion protection accounts.
• Will manage erection plant and the allocation thereof.
• Will be in control of all hand over certificates.
• Must maintain the project erection schedule and chair project erection weekly meetings.
• Will be responsible for recording all site related project extras and for the pricing of all site related activities and extras
