Position Summary
The Concrete Foreman is responsible for the planning, supervision, and quality control of all concrete-related construction activities on-site, including reservoir structures, pump station foundations, valve chambers, thrust blocks, anchor blocks, and other structural components associated with the water supply project.
The role demands a highly experienced individual with a deep understanding of reinforced concrete works, formwork systems, steel fixing, pouring, curing, and finishing, ensuring all works are executed safely, accurately, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
1. Concrete Works Supervision
Supervise the construction of reinforced concrete structures, including reservoirs, pump stations, valve chambers, anchor and thrust blocks, manholes, plinths, and concrete encasements for pipelines.
Manage daily formwork, steel fixing, concreting, and curing operations, ensuring adherence to approved drawings and structural specifications.
Inspect all preparatory works formwork alignment, reinforcement fixing, and embedded items before each pour.
Ensure concrete placement follows the correct mix design, slump, compaction, and curing procedures.
Oversee casting sequences, vibration practices, and finishing to achieve the required structural integrity and surface quality.
Maintain records of concrete pours, including batch numbers, delivery notes, temperature, slump tests, and cube samples.
2. Quality Control & Compliance
Implement the project's Quality Management Plan (QMP) for all concrete works.
Verify reinforcement type, spacing, cover, and quantity against design drawings before pour approval.
Ensure formwork and shuttering are properly braced, sealed, and dimensionally accurate.
Supervise concrete testing including slump tests, cube casting, and curing -- and maintain documentation of all test results.
Ensure corrective actions are taken immediately in the event of any deviations, honeycombing, or defects.
Coordinate with the Site Engineer and Quality Officer for inspections and approvals before and after pours.
3. Structural Works Oversight
Supervise reservoir construction, including base slabs, walls, roof slabs, columns, and water-retaining structures.
Oversee pump station civil structures, ensuring correct installation of hold-down bolts, pipe sleeves, and equipment bases.
Manage thrust and anchor block installations along the pipeline, ensuring correct location, reinforcement, and dimensions.
Supervise foundations, retaining walls, and chambers, ensuring stability and compliance with geotechnical requirements.
Ensure all embedded items (pipes, anchor plates, dowels, etc.) are correctly positioned before casting.
4. Planning & Coordination
Plan and coordinate daily work activities, ensuring efficient sequencing of reinforcement, shuttering, and casting.
Liaise with batch plant operators or suppliers to confirm mix design, delivery schedules, and quantities required.
Prepare daily pour schedules, ensuring readiness of labour, equipment, and materials.
Coordinate crane and concrete pump operations to ensure safe and continuous concrete placement.
Communicate closely with the Site Engineer, ensuring all inspections are signed off before casting.
5. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
Enforce strict compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and site safety procedures during all concrete operations.
Conduct daily toolbox talks focusing on lifting, shuttering, concrete handling, and vibration safety.
Ensure correct use of PPE and safe working practices around formwork, scaffolding, and wet concrete.
Prevent environmental contamination from cement waste, wash water, or chemical admixtures.
Report and document all incidents, near misses, and non-compliances.
6. Resource & Equipment Management
Manage site labour, carpenters, steel fixers, and concrete teams to achieve daily production targets.
Monitor and control the use of formwork materials, spacers, release agents, and concrete accessories.
Ensure all tools and equipment (vibrators, mixers, concrete pumps, scaffolding) are maintained in good working order.
Record daily quantities of concrete poured, formwork erected, and reinforcement installed.
Minimize wastage of materials through proper planning and supervision.
7. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and up-to-date daily site diaries, pour records, cube logs, and concrete delivery notes.
Submit daily progress reports to the Site Engineer, detailing work completed, labour used, and challenges encountered.
Ensure all as-built information, measurements, and photographic records are submitted to the project team.
Assist the engineer in progress certifications and handover documentation related to concrete works.
8. Handover & Finalization
Participate in inspections and ensure all concrete-related snags are rectified.
Support testing, commissioning, and structural integrity verification of reservoirs, chambers, and foundations.
Ensure the site is cleaned, formwork stripped, and materials returned to storage after each pour.
Assist in final handover documentation including cube results, pour records, and material certificates.
