Our client, an international trade, logistics and distribution company, is currently looking for a Compliance Officer to join their team & support the department in ensuring that the operations & business follow all relevant legal & internal rules.

Requirements:

  • BCom Law, LLB, Risk Management Degree, or similar
  • 5 years' proven experience in a Compliance Officer role
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Analytical with strong-problem solving skills
  • Excellent reporting skills & document management
  • Good professional appearance
  • Ability to work alone & with various departments
Key Performance Areas:
  • Develop & implement an effective legal compliance program.
  • Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them.
  • Develop, monitor and update general company policies and processes related to ethics and compliance to ensure they are up to date.
  • Proactively and Regularly audit company processes, procedures, practices, and documents to identify possible weaknesses or risks.
  • Evaluate business activities to assess compliance risk and offer alternative mitigation strategies to the Risk Committee.
  • Create and manage effective action plans in response to audit discoveries and compliance violations.
  • Be permanently connected to the company's operations to get to know the business and be able to build an ethical culture.
  • Assess company operations to determine compliance risk.
  • Design and conduct periodic training in compliance and ethics for all employees covering the latest regulations and industry practices.
  • Address employee concerns or questions on legal compliance.
  • Constantly report to management concerning the organization's compliance with laws and regulations
  • Take action in dealing with noncompliance situations, creating realistic plans to overcome them.
  • Acts as contact person and liaison between department heads and senior management.
  • Visit warehouses nationally for investigations in relation to breach of contracts in order to defend and limit the companys liability.
  • Assist in customer and Vender on-boarding processes
  • Accountable for the insurance portfolio
  • Responsible for inventory and non-inventory claims and recovery.
  • Responsible for administering claims against vessel sweepings, contaminated or damaged cargo, and stock theft.
  • Responsible for drafting letters of protest and appointing surveyors and relaying reports.
  • Responsible for administering claims against damage on our buildings, equipment, goods damaged in transit, loss of company office assets, vehicles, and documentation.
  • Timeously follow up with insurers on pending claims and ensure recovery.
  • Ensuring cover for new warehouses or storage facilities, office buildings, assets, and equipment.
  • Provide research, manage policies and oversee claims relating to any of the different Policies.
  • Effectively provide monthly reports.
  • Oversee asset protection of both people and staff as well as to prevent theft and inventory/ stock loss.
  • Analyse and evaluate security operations to identify risks or opportunities for improvement.
  • Staff training in security rules and procedures
  • Attend meetings, professional seminars, or conferences to keep abreast of changes in executive legislative directives or new technologies impacting security operation.
  • Assist in emergency management and contingency planning
  • Prepare reports or make presentations on internal investigations, losses, or violations or regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Communicate security status, updates, and actual or potential problems, using new and established protocols.
  • Participate in site Investigations and report on findings.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms, or intrusion alarms, following emergency response procedures
  • Recommend security procedures for access control.
  • Conduct physical examinations of property to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
  • Random Stock Counts as and when required at all Warehousing Sites.
