To recruit participants from the community into a study, maintain retention of study participants through home visits/telephone tracking, assist with adherence and retention activities; participate in the process of raising awareness about the studies and creating a relationship between Wits RHI and the community
Location:
Wits RHI - 7 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Research Centre - Johannesburg
On the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Floor
Key performance areas:
Promote studies and recruit participants by conducting presentations, radio talks, and distributing brochures at the community
Address potential participants in accordance with recruitment targets and participant recruitment standard operating procedures (SOP)
Obtain verbal consent before conducting screening interviews
Inform willing participants that participation in the study is voluntary
Conduct screening interviews with consenting participants to determine eligibility for the study
Schedule an appointment with eligible participants to attend the further screening at the Wits RHI study clinic
Record screened participants in the screening register
Obtain informed consent from participants for screening and enrolment
Administer study questionnaires
Driving duties may be allocated as needed
Contact participants prior to their scheduled visits to remind them of their visits
Visit home or contact participants telephonically to reschedule visits
Prepare a list of home visits according to priority and living area
Address relevant concerns and misconceptions about the study.
Receive queries from participants and address or refer queries accordingly
Report on community meetings
Attend relevant internal and external meetings
Chair or take minutes of relevant stakeholders
Ensure that the study has relevant health promotion materials (IEC) on site
Contribute to the compilation of community-related reports/documents as and when needed
Perform other duties as per Delegation of Authority
Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
Take ownership of driving your own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities such as workshops, forums, conferences, etc.
Comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Protocol requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Verify the accuracy of data in source documentation and accuracy of transcription from source data to electronic. Case Report Forms (eCRF) as needed. Ensure errors on source documents e.g., paper & electronic CRFs, are corrected, initialed, and dated as required
Support the timely transmission/data faxing of relevant Case Report Forms following QC activity (as needed)
Ensure completion of corrective action of internal and external QC reports and monitoring reviews
Assist with staff training (and retraining) where error trends are identified
Driving duties may be allocated as needed
Required minimum education and training:
Grade 12
HIV Counselling and Testing Certificate
Valid Driver's License, including PDP Certificate
Fluent in English and other African languages (Sesotho and Zulu preferable)
Required minimum work experience:
Minimum 6 months of working experience with recruiting and retaining participants in a clinical trial environment
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:
Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Empathetic with good communication and interpersonal skills
Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Be tactful, respectful and maintain confidentiality
Able to work independently and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
